Canada has the best depth, yes, but not the best players (right now, anyways).

The top two scorers in the regular season have been Malkin and Ovechkin for two consecutive years now, the playoff MVP last year was Zetterberg, etc.

As for the Ducks example. I could argue Detroit won last year, and almost won again this year, thanks to all their Swedes. Obviously Swedes are the best players in the world. 😉

Seriously, I think it's more about the organization and the team than the nationality of the players...


As for the Stanley Cup... I can't believe Pittsburgh won!

I was reading somewhere that this year's cup finals had the biggest ratings boom since 1973, so apparently it was a huge hit everywhere and why not? Seven games to decide the champion with the underdog Penguins coming back to win it all. People may not like Crosby, I'm don't mind him, but let's remember this: he's only 21 and the captain of a NHL franchise. Add in the endorsement deals and being Bettman's "face of the league" and that's a massive amount of pressure to win. I'm really happy that he was able to do it and become the youngest Stanley Cup winning captain in NHL history.

As to the Canadians thing here's a fact you should consider: scoring wise yes Europeans for the most part have dominated the league in recent years, but before last year with Nicklas Lidstrom, no European captain had ever led his team to the Stanley Cup. Those captains, again for the most part, are Canadians so with us it's not necessarily what they give on the score sheet but things like grit, hard work ethic, leadership, and consistent play, those kinds of intangibles that aren't mentioned in any statistic, save for plus/minus and even then.

What an awesome playoffs and what an amazing Stanley Cup Finals.
