Just a question for my own curiosity.

People into fetishes - are they usually gothic or alternative people?

How many people here were jocks or cheerleaders or gangster types?
(i'm using American steroetypes)
For the English - how many were Chavs / Chavettes?

Just a question for my own curiosity thanks 🙂

The people who admit to having a fetish that I know (just leather btw!) is gothic people. My chav friends would never admit to such a thing, honestly.

I don't know what you would say I was, I was friends with everyone....the rich kids , gang members , poor kids, smart one and dumb ones. I was into sports big time, and also a cheerleader. I knew I was ticklish all my life but I thought I was a freak until my boyfriend showed me this lifestyle.....I love it!
I think all types of people are into this, not just one type.

We are widely varied across the socioeconomic genres. Me personally, I am an interesting creature. I go with my mood which can vary from gothic to backwoods country. Which is why I probably got along good with various cliques.

I think the underlying factor that is much more prevalent than any singular socioeconomic genre is the confidence level of the individuals in alternative lifestyles. Most that I network with are confident people who have worked hard towards self acceptance. And you have to have a level of confidence to live with these lifestyles as part of your existence because a good part of the world will judge you still. It takes a lot to fight that and come out still happy with who you are.

Personally im nothing 'outstanding'

If you tripped over me in the street, you wouldnt think "he looks a bit gothy/unique, he must have a fetish"

I don't fit any typical stereotype. I didn't play sports or was a cheerleader. Neither was I geek nor a goth. My friends and I were a small group who considered ourselves outsiders. We got along with everyone else, but we were never part of any of those cliques.

I'm just a normal looking a gal whom you would never guess that has a tickling fetish.

Yeah, not an ounce of goth or any kind of obvious alternative lifestyle in me... just your typical university student here... sometimes I play a sport or two, sometimes I play video games.

aww this is cool 🙂
i see my original idea was off. 🙂
i used to be considered 'gothy' because i listened to different music and wore black eyeliner but now im just mellow me 🙂

I think the goths stand out simply because they're visibly unusual. Fetish-folk cross every social group you can think of. I know one very kinky lady who is a grandmother, a programmer for IBM, and the former wife of a Baptist minister. My wives and I look like very ordinary Silicon Valley suburbanites.

As I've been into rock/goth music for many years I care to remember, I guess when I was at school I was loving the black rock chick look with leather and studs etc and black eye make up. I had mates that were into the same music as me and others that weren't. I've always been a bit of an individual with what I like and my views and I doubt that would ever change.

Hmm chav's are more 'now' I'm a few years past that :blaugh:

so very true. often, those into the BDSM lifestyle are also goth or one of the other dark, subcultural types. but i have seen others that just by talking or looking at them, you'd think they were just into the missionary style and their idea of "kinky" was saying "OH HARDER!". that is, until you see the $50 leather shackles and floggers under the bed...

well, I haven't replied to a topic in awhile since they all seem to say the same thing, or so it seems. But to put in my 2 censts, I really don't fit a steriotype, kind of anti-social. I did meet a girl who isn't pretty masicistic and even lets me tickle her a little bit, though not to the extent I would like to, mwhaaha! I mean, people have told me I'm atractive but not a model, and that's fine with me.

so, to echo a lot of other thoughts, people will be what they will be. I agree, it depends on confidence, I was never very confident in my fetishes until a few years back, it takes awhile. I'm just a totally blind cog psych major who loves and feels just like every other human.

Most people that are the stereotypical "jock" "cheerleader" type don't make it a point to go against the mainstream. I think if they realized they had such a fetish, they would be more prone to keeping it a secret because it would tarnish their "wholesome" image.

However, I think women in general are less likely to be open about that kind of thing than men are.

That said, "goth" types purposely dress in a way, act in a way, and engage in activities that sets them apart from the mainstream. Therefore, I think their lifestyles embrace such sexual deviances than that of the types previously mentioned.

Anybody from any social clique or upbringing can have a fetish. Whether they explore it, are open about it, and what not is another issue. I believe every person has a fetish in some form or another.

Me personally not goth, not jock; I don't really have a label and I like that about myself. Not all goths are BDSMers and not all BDSMers are goths. Some are into for the lifestyle aspect and others are in for the glam, self-expressionism, and what not.

It's probably safe to say that a large fraction of goths are kinky. It's just not true vice-versa.

stereotype

one stereotype i faced with the recent women i dated was just because i'm a black man i automatically had a foot fetish. granted i'm a leg man(only the thigh and calf interest me), and i constantly had to inform these women that feet aren't my cup of tea.

My guess is that all cultures develop fetishes, and the more a subgroup defines themselves as a deviant or rebellious one, the more open they are about it.

I'm not entirely sure on the answer. I'm a goth, and I'm into all manner of terribly kinky things. But I've known some painfully trendy people who're into the same things. Although, a large portion of the other goths I've known were into less-than-normal sexual pursuits. So I can see where the stereotype comes from.

And fat. A lot of the goth's I know are fat. It seems to me that if you're an especially tubby guy, you just get your body pierced, where a lot of metal chains and a T-shirt with Metallica on it.

You then pass your self off as that fat drummer out of Sum41 and hope you get a shag.

Actually, I found it to be more of a trend in the goth world to be incredibly emaciated.

talk about stereotyping, that's it right there.

when you think you have all the answers, you don't.

Ya know, I noticed a trend in everyone else. Some are fat, and some are thin. 😛

I don't really think cliques have anything to do with whether or not you tend to have more fetishes/kinks. : / I think it's just that with some people - such as goths- it just seems they'd be more likely to indulge in certain fetishes because of the way they dress.

I know one girl who is very hardcore into spanking and all that stuff- but you'd never imagine it if you met her face to face.

And for my part, I definitely wasn't a goth. Wasn't a prep, either. I was the quiet girl who hung out with the video gamers, book readers, anime watchers, and artists and writers. I was also part of the crew team for a while, did martial arts, and my best friends from elementary school were into cheerleading at the time. So I'm not sure where I would fit into your idea of a stereotype. Maybe "bookworm". *Shrugs*

🙂

im glad this has got so many responses 🙂

my reasoning for asking this is my own personal experiences. in my sixth form college there was different cliques and there was one corner in the social area nicknamed 'mordor' for the invest of goth people there. (i'm not being nasty but they were WEIRD)
but couple of girls caught my eye brieftly. they were walking round with handcuffs and 'flirting' outrageously with some of the guy who wore the whole chains hanging off every part of them with these handcuffs.

another instance is that the other day i was flicking through a news paper 'daily mail'
and saw an article about a goth couple, the girl let herself be pulled around on a lead by her boyfriend. under the pic was a caption saying :
" X says she loves being a pet to her boyfriend and will roll over for him and let him tickle her tummy like dog"

Uh, Metallica ain't goth. Not to the goths I know. Not on my continent, nor in Australia or England. They're metal. Effective at it, too.

The quote above is stereotyping. I know goth folk from grade school to retired. Large and small. Over and underweight, and all the spectrums in between. Even knew a fellow who coined the term "PerkyGoth" on USENET back in the day. Joel's a cool cat, too. He's neither boney nor plump.

Folks is folks. They come in a variety.

People into this, based solely on a few dozen events of my own, a few NESTs, some other gatherings, and a lot of communications in the last decade or so, are of all walks of life. All ages. Creeds. Colors. Etc.

We're a deviant sub-culture that crosses such. *shrug*

We DO have some spooky types here. Some gangstas of the current tradition, strapped and all. Musicians. Artists. Actors. Great variety. There's scientists, too. Teachers. Comics. Geeks. A couple of intensely rich folk. Wide spectrum.

Kitty was a majorette in highschool, also the Prom Queen, you can't get any more main stream than that. Fetishes attract all types. :cat:
