but couple of girls caught my eye brieftly. they were walking round with handcuffs and 'flirting' outrageously with some of the guy who wore the whole chains hanging off every part of them with these handcuffs.

another instance is that the other day i was flicking through a news paper 'daily mail'
and saw an article about a goth couple, the girl let herself be pulled around on a lead by her boyfriend. under the pic was a caption saying :
" X says she loves being a pet to her boyfriend and will roll over for him and let him tickle her tummy like dog"

Looks can be deceiving. You'll see people with no fetish interests at all sporting fetish gear simply because it looks shocking and rebellious. There's a line of shops in the US called "Hot Topic" that specialize in this sort of thing. They sell cheap costume fetishwear to goths and goth wannabes.

And fat. A lot of the goth's I know are fat. It seems to me that if you're an especially tubby guy, you just get your body pierced, where a lot of metal chains and a T-shirt with Metallica on it.

You then pass your self off as that fat drummer out of Sum41 and hope you get a shag.

Ummm... wrong genre, sweetie. And just another case of stereotyping based on ones perceptions.

We see some cultures like goth, and generalize based on our perceptions. One thing you learn with experience in fetish lifestyles is that the outward appearance can be misleading. You learn to look at the actions more so. Posturing, word usage, how they interact with others and you often can pinpoint the natural dominants and submissives. But even an experienced eye can be fooled there as well.

Just because they wear chains doesn't mean they enjoy using chains...

But you are right! I read somewhere... (possibly Violet Blue's fetish book??) that there is usually no set triggers for why someone develops fetishes. Therefore, you will find all kinds of people into them. I speak on a regular basis with computer programmers, teachers, assembly line workers, students, country folk, city folk, poor and rich who are drawn to the lifestyle of fetishes.

It's probably safe to say that a large fraction of goths are kinky. It's just not true vice-versa.

I'd go as far as to say that a large(ish) fraction of everyone is kinky. Just different kinks.

They didn't have stereotypes or "sets" or whatever you krazy kool kids are calling them these days back when Headsnap was in school. Back in my day we were scallies; hung round in a big group, drank white cider, stole dumper trucks and cars and took pans out of the local Balti house kitchen so the old Indian men would chase you, and went round the neighbouring villages for fights with the local lads. Never admitted to having a fetish because where I'm from nibbling earlobes is considered a sexual perversion akin to raping kittens with broom-poles, so I was a bit repressed. It all came out okay in the end.

I think the tickling fetish community is like anything else; there's no definitive box you can put people into and say "these people are more likely to be fetishists". You just can't do it. The culture you follow or the type of person you identify yourself as are largely choices made consciously by an individual with some subconscious prompting, whilst being a fetishist is rooted a lot deeper in the psyche. Or something. Yeah. I know what I'm trying to say even if nobody else does 😛 Go and read Carl Jung you smellbags.

As far as saying "all goths are kinky" or whatever I don't think that's necessarily true; what you find with a lot of people who identify themselves as goths is that they'll think, do, say and wear anything as long as it marks them out as different in some way. That's what most of them tend to be about. All yap and no slap. Some of the most frigid women I've met have been women who identified themselves as goths or rebels of some kind, whereas the type of women most folk would consider "trendy" or whatever the fuck you want to call it are far more uninhibited when it comes to getting their kicks.
