Strong Storms and Power outage

We had 2 strong thunder storms with winds of 60 – 80 mph crashing through your area Wednesday and Friday cause trees to tumble over power lines. As of Friday there was over 500,000 homes without electricity and the temperature was 100 degrees with a heat index of 120, (wet humidity)

Now, there’s only 120,000 without power of most of them been without power since Wednesday.

While I was sitting in my home with my family I can’t help but think back to the Katrina Flood and how the people of New Orleans didn’t have a place to go, food, drinking water, medical care and living around all that death and disease for as long as they did. I had to take God that we only had the power outage and was able to get around to find everything we needed to go on.

I have a new found respect for them and everyone that was caught up in the storms of 05.

Wow, that's tough. It seems we lose utilities when we need them most, either the heat of high summer or the cold of dead winter. Hang in there.

Are you in the St. Louis area or has somewhere else been hit like that?

For the people of Katrina , life turned into a living nightmare . In life alot is taken for granted , like food and a place to live . I find that when just the electricity goes out or the waters down I feel a bit lost and appreciate them more when their back . Nothing though to compare with what the people of Katrina went through . No one should ever have to go though such a thing .

Since the storms have happened here, I'm sick of people saying things like "bla blah blah now I know how people of Katrina felt blah blah blah". We lost power for...what...a week at most. People there lost power for a lot longer and lost a HELL of a lot more people than any of the people here in STL. My aunt was worried sick about my cousin for a few days because she didn't know if he was all right while at school in NO last fall, all the phone lines that worked were jammed. It was almost a week before we heard from him. At least most of us had families and next door neighbors STILL ALIVE we could go visit. I'm sorry, I'm just sick of hearing about how our tiny ass tornado/thunderstorm compared to a catergory four hurricane. 😡

where i live in michigan got hit with a massive storm last week with 50mph plus winds, and i lost power for about 12 hours, obviously not a life threatening condition, but it knocked out power to 45,000 on a very warm day, and it made me realize that i take such things as electricity for granted. also made me realize i should invest in a generator.......... :whip:
