Summer Sunshine o^__^o

Here's Cowboy Bebop's own Edward Wong Hau Pepelu Tivrusky the 4th (Ed for short ^^) relaxing in the summer time sunshine which is why I call this one 'Summer Sunshine'. Sunshine also has the double use of refering to Edward's otherwise happy 'sunshine' demeanor. ^___^

This picture was drawn with a mechanical no.2 pencil, inked, then colored with PrismaColor markers. Finally, it was given a few touch ups in PSP7. I went for another watercolor style way of coloring this time. Enjoy. ^^

PS: Yes, she has breasts in this picture,even if they are small. 😛 So this means this takes place after the events of the show.

Well, it certainly is pleasant to think that some time after the end of that horribly depressing (but nonetheless masterfully done) anime one of the cast members might be happy. All the same, as good a job as you've ever done, sir. I especially like the touch with the toe-nail coloring; shows you're thinking outside the box.

I was wondering why Ed had a "chest" until I read that last bit. 'Course, if they had added that to CB itself, there wouldn't have been a the fun of trying to guess which sex Ed was. XD

The perky happiness suits Ed well, as does the coloration of her nails (Toe and finger).

Thanks. I always like to try and offer an alternative for how the character feel. In Evangelion for example, Rei is this pseudo-depressed individual who is often misunderstood (by no fault of her own), so to draw her smiling or being active and not stoic adds a charm we know exists there but is rarely expressed and only subtly.

I relish, whenever I can, in making the most of a character in any particular situation they may be in. Ed has a hard life that we fail to realize sometimes because she's always so happy and active and fun that we forget she's essentially a nomadic orphan who has no where to go. She seeks out the Bebop crew to fill her own void and create a new family.

It would only be right to let her have that, poor thing.

I wasn't going to add breasts at first or age her. But I wanted for once to allow Ed to be sexy or seen as sexy. Normally that wouldn't be possible, and to try and do it without aging her to a suitable age would be morally conflicting I think. You just DON'T draw a child looking suggestive, its not right.

In addition to Ed's androgeny and ambiguous mental capacity, she's barely there . Meaning, we know enough that she's a girl, but not enough to see her as a woman or young lady (like in this picture). I think its more comfortable to call her a young lady in this case.

Anyways...I tried. LOL If I ever draw Faye and Ed together in this way, it will be pretty difficult but worth it.

Cute. Now did you color this yourself? I only ask because it seems a little inconsistent with most anime I've see which favors a more solid color scheme.

Yes, it is out of rythym with a majority of how animation is celled and colored in. Whereas most pictures, even most of my pictures, are solidly colored with the areas saturated with solid color, with this one I went for a different technique involving light strokes (so that you could see the individual value of each line) and placing these strokes according to where the lightsource was coming from. On her leg for example, the lines are of differing intensity, and the sole of her foot is different depths of color, with the ball of her foot being lightly colored to show texture (same with two of her toes). The same is true for her collarbone area, her neck, her arm and parts of her face.

Being that this was colored with markers, it was an ideal way to color it rather than do what is default or expected. I think this picture is unique because of that. The idea was to give it a simple color treatment that was both light and textured, simplistic and slightly abstract, but also something that was not random and was used properly. Prismacolor markers have so many uses that it would be a shame to just color the same way every single time.

I've seen others, even professionals color this way and I had to try it out myself. Its a technique thats not often employed and it always get some misunderstanding from some viewers who are not used to seeing it, but its definitely unique in the art community. 🙂

Ah, Ed... my second favoirte Cowboy Bebop character. You've certainly done her proud. Happy to see she's become a bit more focused in later life... maybe. Those are pretty crazy nail colors! Now, where's her little pal, my favorite Bebop character, Ein?

Thanks. Glad you like it. Ein, I'll draw him sooner or later. I've already drawn him once. He was in my first Ed picture, but thats an old one now.

I'll probably draw Ein with Ed or Jet. He seems to like those two the best.

Found the first picture. Very nice! Yes, that's the old crazy Ed we came to know and love (and fear!). I always thought she could use a good tickle to settle her down. And Ein is very cute, very puppy-ish. Look forward to any new pictures on the subject.
