Have any forum members ever been suspended from school? If so, what was it like?

My high school had something even worse than suspension, called In School Suspension, which was horrible. Once, in freshman year, what started as a play fight between me and this other guy, in the lunch room, escalated into a real fight. We both got dragged to the Dean's office by the lunch room teachers. We were given In School Suspension for the next day. We had to bring our lunches, and the teachers would tell the ISS supervisor what chapters would be covered in class. There was a bathroom in the room we were in.. soo.. from 7:45 am to 2:15 pm, we could do nothing but read, sit, do our work, and have our 20 minutes for lunch. No talking or leaving the room. I'd have rather been suspended and stayed home, because this sucked even more. The day after I got ISS, when I saw the Dean, he told me it was a relatively new punishment, that they felt was even more severe than regular suspension. I'd learned my lesson. I never again got in trouble like that. In fact, the only other time before that when I'd been in trouble, since Elementary School, was when I got something called Central Detention, or an hour after school detention, with the Vice Principal of the Junior High. I got that for either coming late to class, or swearing in school, I don't remember which one.

Anyhow, that's the topic, have any forum members either been suspended from school, or received in school suspension? If so, what was it like?

I had a similar ISS while I was in junior high. Our school had a point system for all of the typical infractions that happen in school. An accumulation of a certain amount of points got you a certain amount of days in ISS. I'm sure we had to complete assignments during our sentence, but I mostly remember being tasked with writing things like "I will not talk back to the teacher" over-and-over on paper.

I was in that school for three years, from the 7th-grade through the 9th-grade. There was a guy I hung with back then and we were no good for each other. He missed the first month of 9th-grade because he was back in his country. The first month following his return I accrued more points than I had in my entire 7th-and-8th-grade years. I spent a lot of time in ISS that year and I served some IHS (In House Suspension) as well.

And in high school I served IHS for "threatening" a teacher. That suspension came at the end of the school year, so I could have cared less.

Fiend, thanks for the post. The punishments you mentioned sucked.

When I was in 9th grade, I got put on homebound for a month, but it wasn't my fault. It happened because the principal was a dick.

I was in wood shop class, and this guy smashed a paint rag filled with chemicals in my face, something that would be an obvious assault, and severe punishment, if it happened today. The problem was, the teacher didn't see it, so he didnt reprimand the guy. When I went to the principal to complain, the fucking scumbag thought I was lying, because, the guy who smashed the paint rag was on the lacrosse team, and as the principal said: "He knows what would happen to him if he lied to me". My parents talked to the principal, and to the superintendent of schools, but.. they felt it best to have me finish my work that year at home with tutors, which was complete bullshit. I got put on homebound, because another guy who was a dick smashed a paint rag in my face.

Since we had only one high school in town, I couldnt transfer. I tried to get into the town's private school, but my grades then weren't good enough, so I had to go back to the public high school.

Shortly before I graduated, I made an appointment with the principal. I told him that I was angry and hurt that he thought I had lied, and that he shouldnt have immediately assumed that because the other guy was on the lacrosse team, that I was the one lying, because I had told the truth, even though the wood teacher hadn't seen it. The principal didn't say much. He listened, and then I left the office. My ex best friend and his sister both graduated from the same high school I did, and they both admitted the principal was a dick.

I could have made more of an issue about it, but, after I got rejected from private school, my parents told me I had to go back to public school, accept what the principal did, and just deal with it. They were okay with my making an appointment to express my feelings to him before I graduated, because I did so in a respectful way, and wasn't in danger of getting suspended or expelled just for talking to him. It pissed me off that he thought I was the one who lied about the paint rag incident, just because the other guy was a lacrosse player. Stupid.

Should've got suspended for getting in a fight in the middle of a classroom, but luckily I was good at baseball so my headmaster sent me to "peer mediation" instead so it didn't affect me playing games that week.

Got suspended 3 days for smoking in my car, lol... it was great! :jester:

We had a social studies teacher who instead of giving out detentions, would either make you write out half or all of the declaration of independence.

That's what you get for fighting on campus, commie.

leaf, that seems like a stupid reason for getting suspended. People in my HS used to smoke in the side courtyards. The teachers apparently knew, and no one ever got in trouble for it.

The punishment tequilla got sounds like it would suck, big time.

Mitch

Yes, it was absolutely ridiculous lol.... so I just made the best of it and played video games for 3 days

LOL, leaf. Funny.

I am a long time lurker and only recently joined, and i've gotta say the weirdest shit seems to have happened to you.

anyways, I got ISS twice when i was a freshman, for cutting class. After that I learned how to cut without getting caught. As far as the experience, well, it sucked, of course. Pretty sure nobody has fun in ISS lol. Unless the teacher supervising is hot, then it'd be more bearable. But still. Punishment usually sucks in any form.

I got suspended once in my senior year. I was 18 at the time, and for some reason i got pissed at the teacher and became uncooperative when she waited me to go the library. So before she got the assistant principle on my ass i took off to the the library. there i gave the assistant principle a hard time.

I never got suspended, or ISS, or anything. However, at my high
school, parents had an option to sign a form giving permission to
an administrator to paddle their child as an alternative to suspension
or other non-corporal punishments. I was always too chicken to ask
my mom to sign one, and besides, I was never in trouble anyway.

HS- skipping class

2 days of sweeping the parking lot
1 day of washing the windows
Needless to say it sucked! LOL

Sloppy, what do you mean by "The Weirdest shit seems to have happened to me". I'm curious about that statement.

TMJ, that would suck. Sweeping the parking lot and washing the windows would be awful! I'd rather sit in quiet rooms all day, lol.

Mitch

I've had in-school suspension a bunch of times. Mostly for ditching class and once for starting a food fight. 🙂

Shit is boring as hell and you can't sleep. :/

Sounds like in school suspension was used in just the right way given that suspension is supposed to be a punishment. Suspending kids and sending them home is unlikely to be a punishment for most kids. Sadly, schools do it too often and it just serves the reinforce the behavior they are trying to change.

just from all of your posts, it sounds like you have a lot of drama and whatnot going on.

I was suspeneded 3 times back in school. All where out of school suspensions so I got to stay home, sleep in and do whatever. Plus my parents gave me money to order a pizza for lunch

I was suspended once.

Kind of the most ridiculous punishment they ever dreamed up, in my opinion. You get to stay home from school. Kids lie all the time to get out of school. WTF?

I had ISS for 2 months straight. Sleeping in class was a bad thing. The idiots didn't realize I could just as easily do it in ISS. 😀.

I liked it. Didn't have to set my cell phone alarm every time the bell rang since it was just one room for the whole day.

Sloppy, I don't have "drama". I have very serious life problems. My mom has cancer, and I'm her caregiver. I'm sorry if you think that's "drama".

Leo, ISS for two months straight? OMG that is awful. I don't think I've ever heard of that.

Drama = euphemism for stressful situations. I dont think he meant to offend.
