Although written tounge-in-cheek, I'm surprised to read from 1956 some of the psychological aspects to tickling being confirmed at the time even as we know them today.

Back then, I figured the outlook was "We don't know what any of this tickling stuff is about, but hopefully the Russians haven't figured it out, either. Well, off into my unseatbelted car with three highballs in my gut to go buy some unfiltered cigarettes froma Chinaman who owns a package store down the road, before I miss Jack Parr's monologue!"
