Kickin' it OG with this one.. this was yanked from my website. It fits the theme of the thread best. I also noted that I enjoyed using the word "lucky" a lot back in '09.

I was reading This Blog today. It’s one of your run of the mill techie tards that love waxing poetic about new apps and become as whiny as a 2 year old when something doesn’t run to “their standards”.

This douchebag is complaining about the fact that Firefox won’t replenish the 15+ tabs that he keeps open when he wants to run a new session. — This guy is complaining about not being able to open things when he can just re-type the fucking address or pull it from his Bookmarks. I’ve just recently gotten into Firefox not that long ago, at the insistence of a few of my friends, before then I was a dedicated IE user and felt no need for change.

Due to technology constantly changing and my pseudo desire to want to stay within a decent level of “the loop”, I relented and downloaded. I was overcome with glee at the sheer amount of really cool and practical applications that Firefox lets you have. From Adblocker plus to customized tab colors (my personal favorite application). I generally became disgusted at this mans bitching.

We really should be grateful for the technological standards that we have today and constantly expecting more on top of what we have makes me annoyed with society and most of the people in it. We’ve become greedy and wasteful as a whole and are constantly demanding the best, but when we get that we don’t even take into account the amount of time, energy and money that went into creating the product. Not that I’m expecting us all to pay homage to Windows, Apple or all the other billions of techy type things that we’re lucky to have, but just remembering every once and again that we’re pretty damn lucky to have all that it is that we have.

Topic: What are your thoughts on the faster-than-the-speed-of-light evolution of technology? -- Do you think we SHOULD be grateful for what we have? Or do you feel that the Tech-tard Companies should pump the brakes a little bit.

If the tech-tards pushed the brakes... They would become retards! We all have goals, and if we disrupt their evolution; we destroy progress! Let them, proceed!

I don't know about pumping the brakes, but I think the technology needs a paradigm shift. There's no question that what we have available to us supplements our lives in ways never thought imaginable ten or so years ago, but I think it could do more to supplement our lives better in other areas that aren't really addressed. From smartphones, to tablets, to Kindles/Nooks, what have you, many if not most people can easily have a small, glowing rectangle that they can stare at, tune out the rest of the world with, and feed themselves information. I don't think I can go anywhere anymore where people have to wait for something, and NOT see people spacing out with gadgets. If you ever go to a restaurant and casually watch people, you might notice less verbal conversation, as people/couples ignore each other. Larger groups will have at least one or two people playing with their phone, disconnected from everyone else. I'm guilty of it, myself! I mean, before this year, I never had a smartphone. Now, I'd hate to be without my Inspire. I hate that I've grown dependent upon it. If I'm at work, riding along between stops, and I get anxious from a lack of activity, I pull it out of my shirt pocket to fidget, in a manner that reminds me all too much of pulling out a pack of cigarettes. Many people complain that Androids have horrible battery life, but I think the manufacturers intended that as a safeguard to bring people back to the real world every now and again. What worries me most are the people who are so oblivious to the rest of the world, because of gadget tunnel-vision, that they get into car-wrecks, walk out into traffic, etc. (I see people driving with headphones on, and it PISSES ME OFF!)

As far as what I'd like to see, we've got technology that let's us communicate with people anytime/anywhere, but can contribute to car accidents. How about technology that can prevent accidents? Between automobile sensors that can tell when you're going to back into something, and navigation systems that can tell you how to get somewhere, I think it's perfectly reasonable to think that manufacturers can make automobiles that automatically get you to where you want to go, while maintaining an awareness of their surroundings, avoiding other vehicles on the road that would also have their own awareness.

I feel that we should feel grateful for what we have, and that the tech-tards should continue to do what most of them are being paid to do.

Technology is a wonderful thing. I see no reason to halt it's progress.

Comparing computers today with the first computer that I ever used (an IBM 360/90 in 1969) it is clear that we should be very grateful for the enormous progress that has been made and the incredible computing power available at low prices.

But that does not mean they should put on the brakes. Not at all.

They should absolutely not put on the brakes, frankly I don't think its possible to now. Technology is bigger than all of us, I can't wait to see what we have in 10 years. Its exciting!
