And I'm sure other sites as well.

TD Bank announced today that they are going to "Retire" their coin counting machines.

I'm personally sorry about this.

I liked bringing my coins into TD Bank to count if I had,., 10 or 20 dollars in coins over the course of some months.

It was better than, having to.. use my fingers to stuff the coins into the coin rolls, which is a real pain in the ass.

It was explained that the machines were retired due to "errors in counting", and cheating customers. (Unintentionally).

It's unfortunate that the coin machines couldn't be fixed so that they would properly count the change for customers.

Thoughts on this?

Aw, crap in a hat, does that mean that the coin star machines are gonna be retired? I always used them to cash in coins when I didn't have the time to count them. 🙁

Coin logistics is expensive and inconvenient, especially when the bank can't make money from the customers utilizing the services provided. Basically, customers take huge collections to said bank to dump off in the machine. If the machines don't already separate the coins into bags, the bank tellers have to bag the coin themselves (taking time away from the line) to prep them for shipment. That means an armored courier will pick the bags up for processing (another fee for the bank to pay.). Not to mention, customers don't always treat the machines with respect. They don't always monitor what they collect in their coin jars, meaning things get dumped in the machine that don't belong. At best, it could be Chuck E. Cheese tokens. At worst, old candy, paperclips, etc. That ruins the machines, taking them out of service, requiring the bank manager to call in a service tech to fix the machine, resulting in ANOTHER fee for a service they make no money from. It's simply an issue of monetary loss. Their telling customers that it's an accuracy issue is just to let them down easy.

As far as Coin Star, it's not an issue, because Coin Star charges for the service. That's HOW they make their money.

That sucks! We went to Las Vegas last year on the coins I've been saving and they were cashed in at a TD Bank.

Have to agree with Flatfoot. They can't find a way to get some of it, so why brother. Banks have not been about customer service for a long time, unless you deal with a small locally owned bank. If you can find one. I switched to a credit union years ago for that reason.
