Terrell Owens released by the Dallas Cowboys

All Im going to say is this...

With Terrell Owens gone, and to hear all the talk down here in Dallas, if Jason Garrett's offense falls out of the top three at anytime next season, he better be fired!

After the signing a friend of mine texted me about how stupid of a move this is and I completely agree. Terrell Owens has effectively ruined relationships with 3 quarterbacks during his time in the NFL. These guys weren't just pushovers either. He played with a pro bowl QB in Garcia, a future hall of famer in McNabb and another pro bowler in Romo. What has Trent Edwards done in the league? How is he going to stand up to TO when 3 solid quarterbacks couldn't do it? I made the prediction that by week 9 there is some kind of story out of Buffalo that TO is causing a problem. This team plays in a division where they could possibly be the 3rd best team in the division depending on what the Jets do with the QB position. Past experience says this guy is going to be a malcontent when the Bills go 8-8 or 9-7 and miss the playoff. They overpaid (about 6 million completely gauranteed) for a wideout with a bad attitude and diminishing skills. Way to go Bills management.

I am glad the Cowboys let Owens go, I think Jerry got smart and needed to bring some stability to the locker room and the Cowboys will be better for it.

Well, being a diehard Bills fan I will say that this is a brilliant stroke by Ralph Wilson... at least for one season. He was beginning to lose a good portion of his fanbase this offseason after announcing that Dick Jauron would return as coach. There were quite a few who stated they would not renew their season tickets... and after the team started 5-1, only to finish 2-8 the rest of the way and 0-6 in the division, missing the playoffs for 9 straight seasons, who could blame them... Its certainly the most disheartened I've been as a fan in a while...

However, this one signing seems to have breathed new life into a lot of fans... Will it last? Well, I think it will this year... Dick Jauron can't control T.O... If Andy Reid couldn't, Jauron certainly can't. But here's a positive that could happen...

I think Trent Edwards has the most potential as a QB I've seen on this team at least since Doug Flutie... if not Jim Kelly. He is going into his third season... This has to be the season he steps up and becomes the Bills leader... It's his best chance. If Terrell Owens starts his antics at any point this year, I believe Trent Edwards should be the one to stand up to him. No one can control Owens, but what a statement it would make to the rest of the team if Edwards is the guy to call him out. Then it really becomes his team.... and Owens will be gone after the 1 year deal anyway.

Perhaps I'm wrong and Edwards is not that good... or not a team leader... but I hope I'm right... and that if nothing else, during T.O.'s one season in small-market Buffalo he makes Edwards the man.
