Has anybody ever been in this situation ? (I'll assume a male 'ler and a female 'lee, but whatever floats your boat):
Say you're a guy who has been wondering for some time as to whether a female friend / coworker / etc. is ticklish. You wait for an opportune moment to give a quick tickle. Does the moment have to be perfect, or do you settle for any chance, knowing that you may not get another opportunity? And if on your first try, you don't get a ticklish reaction, do you try again, or do you resign yourself to the fact that she's not ticklish?
For example, you have an opportunity to tickle her foot, but she's wearing socks. Do you pass it up and wait until she's barefoot, so you can really test her ticklishness? Or do you go for it anyway, knowing that she may not be ticklish with socks on, so essentially you've blown your opportunity - if she doesn't react, you don't have a conclusive answer because it could be that she's not ticklish or she's only ticklish barefoot.
Back in my late teens, I used to work at a steakhouse popular throughout the northeast (that I won't name, but I'm pretty sure it's out of business) and there was occasional tickling here and there, but usually not more than a quick poke to the sides in passing - not much time or privacy for much more. There was a waitress that I was dying to find out if she was ticklish. I waited for a good opportunity, passing up several along the way, and finally tried as we were both hanging out at the soda dispenser (romantic!). A quick squeeze to her sides - no reaction, other than the three most dreaded words "I'm not ticklish". I was disappointed, and figured that if I tried again, she'd think I was creepy...but eventually I did anyway a week or so later, and actually got a decent reaction - not great, but better than nothing. So in this case a little persistence paid off (we ended up going out on a few dates, so I guess she didn't think it was creepy that I tried again)
