All those who dare to enter: This is the Ann Rice thread, concerning all things "Ricean"

What are your fave books and Characters from Ann Rice?

My all time fave book I would have to say so far is Merrick, from the new tales of the vampires, combining the awesome Mayfaire witches and the Vampires. *Spoiler: * Also was AMAZED that Louie consented to do what he did @ the end of the book.. so much for his agonizing humanity!

Characters, I would have to say Lestat, for his incredible ballsy boldness and daring. I feel for Lestat tho, always trying to be the consumate monster, trying to be like a little kid and amuse and shock, while ever searching for the elusive
And of course Louis.. tortured soul that he is.

Let's hear some other fave Vampire characters and books.

Body Thief was my favorite in the vampire series (aside from Interview, of course). it had me literally on the edge of my seat reading at times. another favorite was Pandora. a very cool character and it’s being set in ancient Rome was a treat. Rice is so good at staying historically accurate in her fiction.

there was an article in my local paper about her being done with the vampire and Mayfair witch series! I only had time to scan, but saved it for closer inspection later.

I’m 3/4 of the way through Blackwood Farm right now and really enjoying it. I just wish I had the time to read more!

did you ever read the one about... some new sort of being... ? one who was very tall and ancient. he had a fascination with china dolls. was it Taltos? I read too many books at one time lol they get fuzzy. I would like to reread that one. I remember enjoying that character very much.

Ahhhh....

Queen of the Damned...

I LOVED the book, hated the movie....

It didn't do the book justice in the least.

Lestat is a kick-ass character, tho....

"Ladies....

Throw your shoes in the air;
and let Laz tickle your feet like you just don't care..."

Ayla,

Yes, the book you are talking about is Taltos. It is one of the books concerning the Mayfair witches, more specifically Rowan Mayfair and her offspring. It is a very good read. I have it here and have read it more than once.

I am a huge Anne Rice fan. I think I've read everything she's written, including the books written under other names.

However, the original 4 Vampire Chronicles are my favorite. I do not even think of them as separate books, because I read them from cover to cover, one right after the other. I love them, and got so caught up in the story and characters, I was sad when I finished the last book. I wanted more! However, none of the newer books in that series have held my attention as much as the original four.

Louis is my favorite character. The always tortured, can't make peace with what he is, vampire!

ShadowFyre, so you are the one I loaned my copy to! 😉

Rowan’s offspring? she is the doctor who was haunted by her mother’s ghost, right? her offspring? how does that tie in? I thought he was a completely separate character and being. I’m pretty sure I read that book before I read any of the Mayfair books, so I would have dismissed any references to them... but she and her red-haired, wild, niece Mona are both in Blackwood Farm (which I haven’t picked up since my last post yet. no wonder they get muddled!). there is a reference to Mona’s offspring being sent off and being very well cared for. could you have meant her? and is Taltos the one caring for it? I am at a complete loss for any details to that book, except for liking it and the character very much.

uggh! I am anxious to start the 5th Gunslinger book and now I am wondering when I will get to rereading Taltos, to catch the things I missed the first time around.

anyone remember that Twilight Zone where the guy just wanted some nice quiet time to read?

Ohhhh---great thread! I've always considered Anne rice to be one of my personal pop culture weaknesses! I've got almost all of her books. *Even the dirty ones 😉 * I was liking the fact that I haven't obsessed over them in a long time. This must be my week for obsession! *note to self - drop religion before picking up Anne Rice again!*

FYI, I really liked Taltos too! So...innocent. :wow:

I've just picked up Cry to Heaven. I never had a chance to get past the first chapter when I bought it, and have recently unpacked it. Any thoughts on this book?

I had the pleasure of meeting Anne about...hmm...must be almost ten years ago at a Mardi Gras soiree. My family is deeply ingrained in the New Orleans social scene having been there for so many generations and I've run into a few "famous names" not knowing how the heck they knew someone that I knew! This is not boasting. This is still pure awe that I met her. AND---She was just so very nice!

Ayla,

Yes, Rowan's first offspring was a Taltos as well, though not a nice one like the title character, Mr Ash. Rowan's male offspring held her captive and all that kinda good stuff. I don't want to give details away so you can enjoy it again when you read it. I like all of Anne Rice's books, and I tend to reread them constantly when given the opportunity.

As for Cry To Heaven, I read it and thought it was pretty good. If I recall right, that is the one about all the singers in Italy. Overall, a decent read.

Wasn't that the episode where he finally found himself all alone, after some sort of attack, on the steps of a big government building, and his glasses were broken so he couldn't read after all?:wow: :cry1:

JoBelle, you met her?! now I know someone who met Lynch and (kind of know) someone who met Rice! it’s an even further stretch than the seven degrees of Bacon, but I’ll take it. 🙂

ShadowFyre, your description brings back vague memories of a pregnant woman in an empty building and a father whispering to an unborn child while the mother slept. I really should read in order! thankfully most of the books stand on their own... but I think I will get even more out them if I read them in order the second time around.

shdwcoder, that’s the one! and that would be my luck! btw, hi! 🙂

Joby ya never cease to amaze me hon... lucky so and so.. so you're a " belle femme d' Orleans" eh( pardon the lousy French)?😛 My mother, tho northern born, always loved the south, in particular New Orleans and S Carolina, and had planned to make her home there..( fate obviously decided she should remain a northerner! lol)

What was it like meeting "the Queen of the Damned"? Was she as mysterious appearing as she is in her interview and pics?

Now you're getting it!

Ayla,

That'd be the one. The father ended up being "Lasher" and the yet to be born child was the female Taltos Morrigan. And yes, it does help to read the books in order 😛 😀

SF

A Cry To Heaven didn’t grab me. I never finished it. another one that just didn’t pull me in, like so many of her books do, is Violin. I did finish that one... but it left me kind of ‘huh? okaaay...’....

and as for that reading in order thing... yeah... yeah... yeah... 😛

Taltos Tales

HI Ayla...

In the nearly non exhistant spare time I have between Uni and work, I;v ebeen reading the Mayfaire chronicals.
Rowan's offspring are first Lasher( the family ghost) who spirits himself into the body of Rowan and Michale's unborn baby and is born fully formed as are all the Taltos.. Without giving away too much of the story, the other child ( another Taltos) Rowan conceives BY LASHER is called Emaleth a female who meets a sad Ending

If you love the Mayfair witches and the Vampire chronicals both, as WELL as Blackwood Farm, read Blood Canticle... all the old cast from the 3 series come togheter AND you get to see what happened to Mona's taltos girlchild and the acient Taltos .

Take care

Ghostie😀

thank you so much, Ghostie! is that a new one? I haven’t even heard of it. definitely next on my must read list!

loved Quinn! and would love to read more about him.

ps just had a Freudian typo while searching for this book on Amazon. lol “cantickle” is what my fingers kept trying to type!

Well we are "Ticklepires" ( cue the bad jokes please)

and we thrive on the laughter of our dear tickly victims, er ticklees?

And I can think of MUCH more exciting things to dop to a neck than biting... hmmm running ice cubes and feathers spring to mind!
And Canticle is a hell of a read!

PS have you been on Anne Rice's site yet Ayla( www.annerice.com).../CHeck out the link "The Anne Rice Collection" unded "Dolls" No one of Quinn yet( I've written her and begged for ones of Louis and Quinn) but thjere is a stunning Petronia doll. complete with the bloody fangs. Oh and Mona and Quinn are FINALLY togheret in Canticle, and I'll leave it @ that before I give too much of the story away!

Ghostie

Making sure she proofread her work reports as the work tickle sometimes DOES find its wriggling way into there!😉
