...to TTD and Shygirl for inviting my wife and myself to their wedding, which was held last night.

It might be the most fun wedding that I've ever attended. Ninety-nine percent of the time, it's patently obvious that the bride is overcome with nervousness, wishing and hoping to the point of despair that everything goes correctly, and that the groom is annoyed that the bride's making such a fuss over everything.

Not THIS wedding.

I've never seen a bride and groom have so much fun at their own wedding. The ceremony itself might very well have been a page clipped out of a night at the Improv. In fact, the ceremony was played in such a key that I had no self-consciousness about eating from a bowl of nuts while it was going on. My wife and I had just arrived, after a horrific three hour drive, and I was famished. While Ed and Patti were mangling the vows, I'm sitting there eating almonds and cashews.

As the night carried on, I realized that this was the kind of wedding I had been keen on attending...after bitching and moaning recently about having to attend yet another wedding (mandatory: the wife's boss' daughter :cry1: ) with the same food, the same DJ playing the same boring Techno-Turd music, the same same same, I envisioned going to one that was DIFFERENT. This was certainly it.

One of the highlights of the night was the appearance of a professional clown. A very petite woman, dressed as a borderline sociopathic Jewish aunt, in a white wig, glasses, rouged cheeks, and Charlie Chaplin tramp shoes and floppy socks. She came in, hung around Ed's table, and for twenty minutes or so, hilariously insulted the bride and groom (using Jewish phraseology that I'm sure only a few people beside myself would've understood). The funny thing was that I've actually known real people like this, and have been tempted, at one time or another, to have thrown them out on the highway after an insufferable car ride with them...but that's a story for another day.

Once again, thanks to Ed and Patti, my favorite bride and groom.

that's terrific..i had forgotten when the date was..i thought maybe later in the month..i'm sure they made a great couple and had fun..so glad you also had fun..

Glad it was so much fun. Normally, I hate weddings myself. So boring.

The reception is the fun part. Cheap to free drinks and all the buffet you can eat. :bouncybou

Wedding ceremonies, for the most part, are such solemn occasions. It's all caught up in this ritual...and some people insist on making it as long and as drawn out as possible, until you're sitting there, rolling your eyes, and even on the verge of hyperventilating. Why? I made sure that for mine, I insisted that the ceremony last not longer than fifteen minutes...I'm a considerate human being.

I know this: I don't want to go to weddings anymore unless they're as fun and funny as Ed and Patti's was. And if I have to go, they're gonna be held to this standard. It's gotten to the point where I'm so sick and tired of the conventional, that I might wind up sitting there during the ceremony, with pencils hanging from my nostrils. Or, I'd sit there wearing a fright wig, or something...

Best wishes for a long happy marriage! So glad to hear the wedding was such a hit!

CONGRATULATIONS to Ed and Patti! Thanks for reporting the event, Knox. 😀

Yes, thank you to Ed & Patti for sharing their day with David and I. The cermony and wedding was a blast, and we had great company to boot! Knox... Patti rented the lady from Rent a Yenta! I understood all the verbage! It is something only a real NY Jew would understand! well maybe a few more...for Patti she must have been around a lot of Jewish people to get this idea. The wedding was a real pip.....but oy, if my bubba would have seen this should she would have said it was all Meshuggina, and to think the whole mispocha was there to see it.

Mazel Tov Ed & Patti!

Congrats to two of the nicest people we know.....

Fortunately for Tracy and I we were also invited...

Unfortunately it took us almost 2 hours to travel 30 miles before traffic actually came to a standstill....

We had to stop and get off the highway and were unable to share in the happy occasion...

Just want to send our love and hugs.....

Ray & Tracy.... :bowing:

Ann and I were really looking foward to be being part of Ed and Patti's special day. But as Ray noted, the events of the afternoon were not on our side. I ended up getting out of work later than planned, though still earlier than usual. Then the huge 84 traffic tie-up, which after 2 hours came to a complete stop in Danbury.

Anyway....... our Congrats to Ed and Patti! 🙂

Drew and Ann

:redheart: :redheart: :redheart: Congrats, my friends! I know Drew already spoke for us. But, just a personal word. We've come a long way. I really wanted to be there for you guys on your special day. And I was there at least in spirit. But, the one comfort we had in realizing that we weren't going to get there was that we get to watch you celebrate your love for one another every time we meet. So, we'll just keep on celebrating with you.

Ann

Congrats Ed and Patti!

That is awesome...I am so happy for you both!
It is really cool that TMF'ers could be there to celebrate in the occasion as well!

Should be one hell of a honeymoon too :bump: :devil2:

Congratulations on gettin' hitched!

Seriously, congratulatioins on your wedding and I know it will be filled with lots of love and plenty of laughter! :xpulcy: :xpulcy: :xpulcy:

Like I was telling thou hubby...I once knew someone who was really like this (the fact that the woman was my own grandmother's height, and walked with the same stoop in her gait was not lost on me either). This was my ex-girlfriend's sister's mother in law. Dolores. We used to see her at family gatherings in Oceanside, and usually were bamboozled into driving her home, over by Fort Hamilton. In the car, the woman simply would not shut up...her greatest enemy was (gonnahora) silence. So, on and on the old drone would drone, her overly generous application of rouge on her cheeks and massive amounts of green eye makeup making a startling sight in the dark. By the time my ex and I were headed across the Verrazano (after the Federal Project involving getting her out of the car in front of her apartment building), I had been literally fit to be tied. One of the great benefits of breaking up with my ex was not having to be around Dolores again. L'chaim.

No doubt the other guests thought she was a great caricature. To me, it was more than a caricature...
