2001: (January 16) US President Bill Clinton awards former US President Theodore Roosevelt a posthumous Medal of Honor for his service during the Spanish-American War. Eleven of Roosevelt's descendants accept on his behalf.
2002 May 6 - A press release announced the official name change from World Wrestling Federation Entertainment, Inc. to World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc., or WWE, and the change was publicized later that day during a telecast of Monday Night Raw, which emanated from the Hartford Civic Center in Hartford, Connecticut.
2004- October 27. The Boston Red Sox win their first World Series in 86 years, defeating the St Louis Cardinals, 3-0 in Game Four in St Louis, to complete a four game sweep of the Series.
2002-October 27. The Anaheim Angels defeat the San Francisco Giants by a score of 4-1 in the seventh game of the 2002 World Series, to win the 2002 World Series, four games to three.
2005-October 26. The Chicago White Sox defeat the Houston Astros, 1-0, in Game Four of the 2005 World Series, to win the 2005 World Series, with a four game sweep.

2001 (September 11) Almost 3,000 are killed in the September 11, 2001 attacks at the World Trade Center in New York City, The Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, and in rural Shanksville, Pennsylvania after American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175 crash into the World Trade Center's Twin Towers in New York City, American Airlines Flight 77 crashes into the Pentagon, and United Airlines Flight 93 crashes into a grassland in Pennsylvania.
2003: (February 26) An American businessman is admitted to the Vietnam France Hospital in Hanoi, Vietnam with the first identified case of SARS. WHO doctor Carlo Urbani reports the unusual highly contagious disease to WHO. Both businessman and doctor later die of the disease.
