The 50s Pinup

I'm doing a gift piece for a friend despite my hellishly busy schedule and it involves putting some of his OCs in a 50s pin-up style. Someone in it HAS to be able to pull of this classic look.
The only problem is, it is a wicked hard hairstyle to draw {XD
Perhaps if there are any ladies who know how this is do is actually done who could give me some pointers, I'd be able to get it to look right. Or even if anyone can tell me what it's called.
Artistic input is always appreciated, of course.
