How many others loved this obscure Terry Gilliam film when it came out in 1988?
I've always thought it had the potential to be the next "Wizard of Oz" for the new Century.[If anyone recalls,Wizard of Oz was not a popular film when it first came out,but did become so in the 1950's with the coming of Television].
Munchausen's problem was that it wasn't fully promoted,as Columbia Pictures was in the middle of being sold to the Sony Corporation.
The amount of theatres was also less than what was commonly assessed to a big budget release!

Also,What is your favourite Terry Gilliam Film?

Frickin (insert stronger explitive) awesome! I didn't see it when it came out but I saw it later and I fell in love with it. And why didn't you mention the foot tickling? 😉

Yes, that's one of the best mainstream tickling scenes to date. I suspect Robin Williams may be one of us...

One of the most imaginitive movies ever made. Bought the dvd a while back, and I'm trying to find that incredible soundtrack.
Would've been cooler, though, to see Uma Thurman get tickled🙂

Actually, yes and no. Gilliam's Munchausen is merely another in a long line of adaptations of the story. It has been filmed in France, Italy, Germany, the U.S., the U.S.S.R., and Czechoslovakia. In particular, it bears a startling resemblance to the version filmed in Germany in 1943 by the legendary UFA studios(who unfortunately were controlled by the state at tha particular point in time). I own prints of the Czecoslovakian and German versions, and both are incredible, fanciful workings of the story.

Favorite Gilliam film would probably be a toss-up between Time Bandits and Brazil(I thought The Fisher King was an odd but interesting tale, too, tho'.
