the "baseball only" thread

I wish to inform Mils the Cubs won today, beating the hated jints , so even if the Dodgers lose tonight, at least he will have something to smile about.

Next, to tf4f, you are a great Mets fan, and even though we banter, you're fun to banter with. I know sadira is a great Cubs fan as well. All I know is we will make our move, just you see.

For your sake and Sadira's sake. I really do hope so. I really am being sincere too.

I do thank the fine Cubs, who, for two days in a row, beat the hated jints with a walk-off run. 😀

There is a chance that the winner of the West division may have a below .500 record, a first for any division winner

and tf4f, if you mention that infidel's name again, there will be consequences

Why I have no clue what you are talking about? BTW, Sadira and I are going to New York to welcome Victor Diaz back to the Mets. :wavingguy

When are you going to New York???

*prepares to bomb tf4f for mentioning the infidel's name :Grrr:

I checked, and the lowest winning percentage of any team that made it to post season play was .509 by the 1973 Mets.

They won the NLCS and got to the World Series that year, where they lost to the Athletics.

So that record of .509 may indeed by broken by the NL West winner this year.

When the Cubs are in town to meet the Mets. The Mets have Milwaukee then the Cubs on a 6 game homestand. ( this is still being worked out. Nothing is finalized yet.)

Well I hope the two of you have fun...who knows, I might see you both in the crows on TV

tell sadira I said hello :wavingguy

Wow. Now I really don't understand why. Anyway, I am hoping to get to Shea this year and hopefully go to Comerica Park this season too.

The NL East is tightly bunched, first place to last place. 😱

So is the West but they all stink. Heck if Colorado could win on the road, I would give them a chance to steal that division.

The Colorado Rockheads are the only team that is far from first place in the NL West. 😀

For the 2nd year in a row the top teams in the National League come from the Central Division. The Astros, Cubs and Cardinals are the class of the league. The only other good team in the NL is Atlanta. Houston really impresses me. They lost Beltran and Kent to larger market teams but play good fundamental baseball and during this current homestand are taking it to the teams from the East Division. Tonight the Mets are pitching their ace against the Astros fifth starter and have a good chance of winning. This could be a long series for the Mets if they lose this game.

The Astros did win it, with a run in the bottom of the 9th.
It is interesting to note that the NL West is more than 50 games under .500 in total. 😱

This roadtrip is killing the Mets. Let's see. They play in 2 parks where even Kitten could hit homeruns( if she was athletic and knew how to hold a bat properly ) and the Mets have scord a total of 10 runs in their 4 losses and 9 runs in their one win. Pitching for the Mets has not been bad though Kris Benson did not have a great outing last night ( first bad start in his last 9 starts ) as the Mets fell to the Astros. The Mets must win these final 2 to make this trip worth anything for them and to close ground on the wild-card leading Astros. Tonight it is Glavine's turn and tomorrow the Mets will turn to Ishii ( though Randolph indicated that Jae Soe could start in Ishii's spot ) to get this trip going in the right direction.

If I were you, I wouldn't count on Kaz Ishii to do much for you. He will likely walk at least one batter ever two innings.

Do you think I am not paying attention? If you remember, I didn't even want the clown. :ermm:

And back in March, I was very glad that the Dodgers traded him. For anybody, or for a bag full of broken bats.

You can keep warm in the off season by burning the broken bats. But you need to call up a pitcher from AAA to replace the one traded. 😀
