Hello all.

After many years of lurking I decided to try and get creative and share a little back. The Curse is a RPG with a large tickling component developed through RPG Maker Ace VX. It is not however, a tickling RPG.

The game is focused on M/F foot tickling (so far). There is about 45 minutes of playing time as it is only a draft currently (estimated about 1/6th complete). Hopefully I will have the time to complete the next part soon. The game assumes the user has a basic knowledge of RPG play. Note, even though the road unblocks after a certain point, you cannot travel any further at this time.

If you enjoy the game or found a bug, please let me know. Link below.

Edit 08/04/13 - Large expansion (Version 2). Fixed bugs, added tweaks, 2-3 hours+ of game time.
NOTE: You must start again from the beginning. I apologize, but there was no way around it. I put into place a backstop so it will not happen again. You should find the first quest less annoying to get through.

Edit 08/04/13 - quick bug fix
NOTE: You must start again from the beginning

Edit 08/10/13 - Battle Engine Revamp (Version 2.2)

Edit 08/10/13 - Fixed bug, flying snakes. Added icon update. (Version 2.3)

Enjoy! I'm always looking for feedback.

When you get to Developer's Limbo you've reached the end of the game so far.

Thanks,

Got it on download now!

Awfully big file size, did you by any change leave the RTP in it?

I did leave the RTP in it for people. Also added some files that I am not using yet, but are for future development.

Would you suggest I take out the RTP? I am not sure how much it adds to the file.

Thanks

It's so WONDERFUL to see another RPG Maker game out already! Oh I'm just so happy to see everyone starting to work out their own games. Take THAT Tickling Art forum!

I finished up the bit you've made so far and I must say good job on it all since you're still learning. Every one of us is still learning new things, so don't worry.

As to you game - here's your review.

I like the plot so far and the setting looks good. Of course, I'm a foot lover so I'm gonna have some bias , but I do sooo love a good set of ticklish soles. Madler is an alright guy in my book -nods-

The laughter is a little interesting addition, though sometimes it feels silly listening to it. The pictures are kindof nice (though I was amused when a set of feet popped up, and didn't even match the skin tone of the woman I was talking to lol).

Potential "bugs" i might've found:
The piece you find in the barrel outside the pub doesn't seem to get added to your inventory. Is it just some gold added, or was there an item we were supposed to get to give back to someone in the pub?

The last bit of text from the quest giver after finishing the fairy quest just has a spelling error "relased".

Some things to work on:

NPC movement can be changed. I immediately saw this problem when the game started, and Teresa robot-walked-over-to-Madler
g0xgdmh.jpg

Be careful when mixing media. I'm not saying its bad, but going from anime/2D to real life pictures can be a bit jarring (like pixies and bats...and -wait then lady bees?). This is just a little piece of advice, and even some Japanese tickle rpg's have done stuff like this. If you'd like to add more stuff that looks like RPG Maker's default pictures, here are some sites:

http://cyanyurikago.web.fc2.com/material.html

http://lud.sakura.ne.jp/index.html

One more bit of advice - look at increasing the amount of steps needed for battles. Right now, I think you've got them on default (probably), so everyone is getting what they had in my game in the oni den. You can't take more than a step at times before you're in a battle. It's a liiiittle bit annoying.

Overall, I'd say you're doing good! Keep up the good work and get the rest of the game out. I'm curious to see how "The Curse" will be lifted.

The RTP is quite large.

Here's a real-world example. When Screamer released Tickle Mansion, it was about 220MB. After I trimmed out the RTP and things Screamer wasn't using, for re-release. The new size was below 52MB.

The file size is less noticeable when hosted on mediafire (which is fast) as opposed to a slow host like sendspace. However, keeping the size down also respects people's disk usage, so I'd avoid packing in the RTP regardless, especially on a forum like this where other games are being released and played.

If you're worried about people not having the RTP, make a README.TXT that tells them where to get it, and include that in the package. Also, put the link in the first post, since people miss things, sometimes.

The version that doesn't require RTP still gives me the "RPGVXAce RTP is required to run this game."

I added another link to my original post without the RTP. It slimmed the file size down considerably. Thanks.

Thank you much for your well thought out review/advice. I will take a look at the game and see what I can enhance. The change from pixels to real life pictures part tongue-in-cheek humor and part not being able to draw myself. I do agree that it can be a little jarring.

I appreciate the links you provided. Thanks again.

You can get the file you need to run the game here: http://www.rpgmakerweb.com/download/run-time-package

Thanks all for checking it out.

I tried to download it and my antivirus stopped it saying it detected malware.

Windows Defender identified the initial version as malware. File was >64MB, so it couldn't be submitted to virustotal for checking, so I held off on playing it. A version without the RTP would probably be light enough to scan. I'll check on that in a bit.

EDIT: Virustotal says TheCurse v 1.1 is clean. Seems fairly clear that the malware warning was a false positive, but it's good to have some verification.

I'm assuming that there is nothing else after Perth since I can't seem to continue on of the map... If so, not exactly "45 minutes of playing time". Quite good so far, it's got a charming start to it. By the way, there's a villager in Perth that keeps on saying "thanks for dealing with the fairies" not sure if there's a quest there that I completed before taking it, or if that's just something she says.

There is nothing after Perth once the rubble is cleared away. I hope to make the second part soon. I played it through a few times and it took me about 45 minutes to kill the fairy queen and get to that point, but you may be quicker than me 🙂

That villager in Perth should only be saying that after you take out the Fairy Queen. If that is not the case then it's a bug. If there is any more info you could share I would appreciate it.

Thanks for the feedback 😀

Wait, there's a fairy queen? I only killed a normal fairy with 2 bats and she was saying that. Also you might have the encounter rate a bit high, everytime I took 2 steps i got a random battle... Ended the demo at somewhere around level 10! XD

Edit: So I'm playing through it again, now that I have been fortunate enough to not see any fairies, the green chick at the bar is actually giving me a quest instead of nothing and the blue chick told me to go see her. However, when I tried fighting a fairy then going to the village, I could not get a quest and the blue chick thanked me again. Have you set the quest to work on a variable?

The quest is not a variable - once you get the quest you can get to the fairy spring to the west (small lake graphic left of forest). Nothing that you kill will influence event processing. I agree that the fight ratio is too high in the forest. I will have to adjust that.

Thanks!

Your welcome! Are you sure? It's either that or the fact that I walked over the area where the springs is before it was available. I saw the odd spot and wondered if there'd be anything over there.... nothing happened so i just went to the town

I must say, you've got yourself a nice little game started here. I like the mix of the photos in with the artwork as a bit of a switch from the norm. Insane encounter rate, but this definitely has potential. Looking forward to seeing more.

i love it! can't wait for it to continue...love the actual laughing sounds..and the focus on feet 😉 encounter rate is really high..but still so much fun 😀

Updated the first page as well.

Thanks,

Love the game-but I found a glitch in the new version that should probably be addressed.

I entered the fairy forest but left after getting some of the treasures to heal up back at town. Once I had, I found I couldn't re-enter the fairy forest at all. I haven't approached the green-haired woman who gave the quest to see if it reset but I'm suspecting that it was coded to make the forest inaccessible after defeating the Fairy Queen and leaving.

Just something to bring to your attention. This one has a lot of potential and I'm really enjoying it!

You're right - fixing it now! If you hit the enter button while over the spring it should let you back in. I'll have a new version up really soon to fix this. Thank you!

I'm loving the expansion to this, but I gotta ask: is it just me or are the orcs ridiculously hard? I'm level 12 and I get smacked around like a n00b. It's almost like they're scaling up in level with me.

Also, on a minor note, I miss being able to have torture scenes with some of the newer bosses after the fight (Black Widow springs to mind). But as I said, it's minor. Loving the game thus far!

The orcs are tough but if you equip yourself (chests in outlying caves, maybe one in the old forest) and use cleave you should be able to take them out. Did you do the Magic Water quest first? There may or may not be some good equipment found in that quest 😉. My advice is to check (hit enter) on a lot of stuff you find.

Yeah, I saved the orcs for last because of how tough they were. It's no biggie. I'm an old hand at RPG games, so grinding is nothing new to me. I'll get the bastards and finish this off, just you wait. 😉

I found the orcs are tough at first. I'd say lvl 12+ fully geared should do ya. A good strat that I used when I was having trouble is beat all but an easy one like a slasher or slicer then guard with all characters til you have enough for the clerics spirit blessing to regen your characters. Yes it takes a while but you save mp and even if you take dmg you still come out on top. Avoid the beastmaster or whatever. He carries the weight of all orcish vengence.

Cool game btw. I personally love the old hermit in the beginning and the entire magic water old lady dialog. If I could make a suggestion, lower the chance of confuse for the fairies in the beginning. They tend to make the simplest battles life threatening sometimes. I didn't have too much of a problem with it, but I can see how others who aren't grind veterans could get overwhelmed quickly.
