The Dark tower finished

just this week i finished reading the Dark tower series by stephen king. I have to admit i was a little thrown for a loop when i finished the last book, and despite the warning, i read all of the epilogue.

Well, after a few days of shock and reading the ending several times over to make sure i understood it, i was still left with a few questions.

This thread is meant to discuss the last book of stephen Kings, and in particuler the final ending. There will be spoilers so i suggest that those who haven't read the last book, or read all the Epilogue, avoid this thread. I look forward to seeing the posts made by people.

I admire the fact that he actually finished it. I've been mired in the Wheel of Time for about 12 years now and Stephen King is my hero for sucking it up and typing The End.

That said, at first I was disappointed by the ending but over time I've come to admire it. As Kitten said, how else could you really end it?

I didn't like the lead-up very much, because I thought the fight with the Crimson King was a little dumb because they created the idea of this super powerful being and the best he can do is throw whirlygigs at Roland, and the interior of the tower was anticlimactic, but sending Roland back to the beginning made a kind of meta-story sense to me. Given the conceit that this is all a creation of Kings, even to the gunslinger himself, there's a kind of logic to him being trapped within his own epic story.

On the other hand what kind of sick joke is it to create a vampire that feeds on laughter but doesn't tickle his victims?

Thanks so much Jeff for putting my feelings into words!

It just seems appropriate for the hero to have to repeat his torture... so messed up. I was disappointed with the ending at first but to have to be any other way would still disappoint me.

for King to have the balls to finish something of this magniture is awesome in itself.
