I doubt very much if the draft will return, at least in the near future. A war with Iraq wouldn't require it--we could easily defeat Saddam's troops without a draft.
not for the piddly crap that's on the horizon.
i would favor a draft in the future though. i think a short term of military service would be good for most.

Personnaly I don't favor a draft If they did have one do you think any of the politicians children would serve? Also if the are gonna bring the draft back I feel that women should be included Equal rights between men and women right? That last part I didn't say to start a flame war or anything Also if I was still in the Air Force I wouldn't want to serve beside anyone who truly doesn't want to be there I served 10 years on active duty, plus a little over 2 years in the reserves
Personnaly I didn't think much of the military Too many petty little tyrants in it for me Without their rank they are nothing I met some good people in the military, but not a lot I was going to do 20 years but just got tired of it all
When Congressman Rangel proposed the draft, he did it knowing it wouldn't survives a congressional vote. His declared intent was to give Congress pause before declaring war in Iraq. He needn't have worried: Congress hasn't declared war against anyone since 12/8/41, and those ballot mice lack the courage to do it on C-SPAN.
Bottom line: draft is never going to happen. Neither will a war, for that matter.
not for the piddly crap that's on the horizon.

I have to agree with you that all American citizens should serve a short term in the military. It can give a lot of people a basis for a structured life, and as long as you've got the right attitude, it yields nothing but good things for a person, as long as they appreciate it, and are willing to work their ass off for it.
