Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg said that on March 15th Facebook is going to close down forever. Do you think this will really happen? I doubt it, I think it's a PR move, but time will tell 🙂
 
We can still dream, can't we? I find it so fascinating how people are so ready and willing to give up their privacy, as long as it's through a hip, and cheerful veneer.

It's an omen. Mark Zuckerberg is going to be stabbed by a confederacy of his closest friends for the good of the internet.

It won't be any of his closest friends it will be the guy who started Myspace .
 
If this is solely a rumor for publicity purposes, it is completely immature on Zuckerberg's part.

I had a thought, though: I'm sure forum members have seen of, or heard, about the movie "The Social Network". Maybe Zuckerberg got backlash from that, and this was his way of retaliating.

My guess is: It won't happen. I'll be expecting my Facebook account to be open March 15 and beyond. I hope so. It's been responsible for me making a reconnection to someone who has turned out to be a very important friend to me.

I dont hate it. I have an account, and use it. I mean, I can take a joke just like the next person. It's just.. that's a pretty major announcement, and, to me, considering the magnitude of Facebook, far too serious an announcement to make such a joke about.

It's a stupid rumor posted by someone with too much time on their hands and it got spread around. Just like the rumors that FB would be charging a membership fee for people to use the site. It's completely bogus with NO PROOF that Mark Zuckerberg even said it.
 
It's quite amazing that, after all the hoaxes the internet has spewed forth from it's bowels so far, people still believe this stuff.
 
I read in an article recently that facebook is valued at 50 billion dollars or something ridiculous like that, so a decision to close it would be just a tad insane.

Why do people continue to believe those silly chain mail rumours.
 
I don't really get all the facebook hate. I'm sure my credit card company sells more information about me than facebook. What, so they know my age and country? They can advertise to me more specifically? Big deal. Keep your profile private so future employers don't see you drunk, and don't post any information you wouldn't bring up in a conversation.

if you don't like facebook, you don't get an account.

By 'stabbed', you of course meant 'fired from a cannon on a trajectory that would take him into the Interplanetary Transport Network that he may spread the message of Googlefriendsbook to the Martians and beyond'.


See, what I did was, I took your speculation and added some science references to make it a sci-fi story. Awesome, eh?
 
I don't think many people see the trend.

I think humans have an innate need for one another. To be connected with one another. This trend has started since the begining of time but has speed up much like "moore's law" in the past 50 years. Just think, 15 years ago how many people had a cell phones...yet most of us would feel naked without it...even for a few hours. We are constantly connected with the world having nearly infinite access to us during our waking hours. Facebook and the like further link us. I eases our feeling of lonliness. We'll continue to sacrifice our privacy to satisfy this need to be connected with one another.

I guess when people understand the Facebook phenomenon in this context things might change. The only way to battle against facebook is spritually....or by building a big social network with many activities. I think forums like this though fall into the same planne as facebook though....except that with facebook by definition no one is anonymous.

Believe me, PurpleStyle, a lot of us who have Facebook accounts know how to use our brains. Our brains just don't always bring us to the same conclusions that yours does.
 
Yeah,so most of us agree it will not be closing down, as I expected. To those of you against Facebook- I can tell you that it really isn't that hard to keep your privacy there. You don't like a photo-you remove your tag(if someone else has posted it). If you don't want something to be seen or understood about tou-don't post it. But Facebook has some good things to offer-for example, I found most of my classmates from my period in Cyprus, and it allows me to keep in touch with them,share information and so on. Actually, I have browsed some tickle related groups there too, but I'm not joining them, because I have too many friends, whom I prefer not to inform about my fetish. I'm sure that I've browsed some accounts of people on the TMF, but have not offered friendship because of the reasons mentioned above. So,as you see, it's not really that hard to keep private info about yourself even on Facebook 😀

Come join us...there are many friends there and you can keep most of your info quite private...
The difference is that real names are used and real friends get to know one another...without the trolls found elsewhere...
