The local chatroom in my town is having quite a war over this question. So in the spirit of starting trouble I will pose it to the entire TMF.

When one of the side dishes of the turkey dinner is noodles or noodles with gravy, do the noodles go on top of the mashed potatoes or beside the mashed potatoes?

*Believe it or not someone also started a poll about this question.* :sigh:

There should be no mashed potatoes if there are noodles and vice versa....

2 starch dishes should not be served in the same meal....

LOL ily Kered.

I think they should go separately. They are both individual dishes and need not be crammed together, unless someone wants to do that, they can do it themself. :neenerneener:

Bull!!! In a midwestern feast there are several starches to choose from and welcomed by us hearty and hale people. We don't mess around when it comes to feasting.

To answer my own question I put the noodles on the mashed potatoes. That leaves more room on the plate for either greenbean cassarole or sweet potatoes and an extra dinner roll.

Thank you for your thoughful and on topic answer, dear Crystal.

YOU PUT THE NOODLES ON THE MASHED POTATOES??????

WHAT ARE YOU.....OUT OF YOUR FREAKING MIND??????:Grrr::ignite:😡

....So two people for noodles on mashed potatoes, and two bald guys against.

How and why do you know this? 😕

As for me, I say beside the potatoes, only because mixing mashed potatoes with noodles doesn't sound appetizing. :flatstare:

My first response is to go with Venray on this. But considering it's Thanksgiving most of those types of rules are ignored. So I am going for separate because really together doesn't sound very tasty to me. They can mix in my belly later but I want the food to be separate. I'm weird like that. I won't eat gravy cause it will get on all the food it shouldn't. The only mixing I do is mash potatoes and peas.

This. If they want to mix two sides (like the extremely yummy combo of mashed potatoes and corn for instance), it's nice to let the folks do that themselves.

I do have to say though, noodles for Thanksgiving is a new concept to me!

Damn. Now I'm hungry. :hungry: :bounce:

You guys have no idea what true misery is until you’ve been forced to serve rice on Thanksgiving!

.

You may as well just eat poutine and say the hell with it.....:sheesha:

(by "hale" and hearty" I suppose you mean lethargic and undiscerning)

I've never had noodles in a Thanksgiving dinner, but if I did they'd go beside the mashed potatoes. No mixing.

Wait.. Noodles on thanksgiving?
Yes, Glam. Home made noodles in their own sort of gravy put on top of the mashed potatoes with a dash of your favorite condiment. Then you have pieces of turkey on one side and corn, sweet potatoes, green beans or whatever on the other. Eat all that and then fill your plate again.

Noodles and gravy with Thanksgiving? They should be served beside the Pop-Tarts, but only in the absence of Ramen

Noodles (Ramen or otherwise) and gravy with turkey on Thanksgiving has been a Hoosier tradition for 6 bazillion years! Only putting a pound of whipped cream on top of each piece of the pumpkin pie is an older tradition. No lie!

I KNEW IT! MASHED POUTINE!!!!!!:blimey:

Kered,

You are not alone, my friend...

Noodles, mashed potatoes, and gravy are ALWAYS served at our Thanksgiving celebrations...

They're mixed...they're enjoyed...and, well, they're a necessity. 😛

Happy Thanksgiving everyone,

Ryan

They should obviously go inside of the turkey. What? How do YOU people eat them? With STUFFING? HA!

Just another reason noodles go on top of the mashed potatoes. That gives you more room to include the stuffing, or more specifically, oyster dressing.

I knew it had to be an Indiana thing. I have been making Thanksgiving Day dinners since 1991 and I have NEVER served noodles. Mashed Potatoes and gravy, butternut squash, corn, peas, homemade bread, deviled eggs, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes, stuffing and of course, turkey. But noodles??? :illogical

But I do hope it is good Kered. Hope you and everyone has a super Thanksgiving regardless of what you are eatting. As long as you are eatting. 🙂
