Author's Note: I have revamped this from my newer (secondary) dA account under DeathBlackShadoz2.
I am going to be editing and posting the newer variants here as well.
The fantasy world of Laria is a typical sounding magical world.
Mythical creatures roam about, demons and devils torment humanity, multiple races from groups and subspecies having a very familiar relationship with other groups (like dwarves' and elves' notorious hatred for each other), and beings living within a Medieval setting.
There are many paths and goals to take in this world.
Some adventurers travel around the world to see the many wonders and unknown. There are the typical summoned heroes forced to aid in humanity's plight. Some warriors seek battle and glory, wanting to be known throughout the world for their grand accomplishments. Some beings wish to seek the ultimate source of knowledge. Some people just want to have a peaceful life with no care in the world about the dangers to come.
And there's much more, yet our tale is on a dungeon.
Yes, a dungeon.
These areas host many foul things, or good things, depending on their dungeon master. Some dungeon masters are living beings. Others dungeons are just a dungeon core. Dungeons can be controlled or have their own free will, helping or hurting the area that they are in. Even if someone conquers a dungeon and destroys it, many more will appear throughout Laria. Most beings suspect that these dungeons were a gift from the gods, giving the mortal realm a way to live and thrive. There are groups that deny this notion, stating that this is a test or how the past eras have left pieces of their an ancient past.
Despite these speculations and theories, everyone in the world tends to use these dungeons on a day-to-day basis.
As the narrator, I could go into detail about all of the nitty, gritty technical stuff...
But let us cut into this long and ever-expanding story with our [Dungeon Core].
In the mountains, residing in a single cave, a bright gray diamond-like item floats in the middle of the room. It lets out a low humming sound, trying to figure out... its existence.
It knows what it is.
The job, the means, the very core existence of what a dungeon core is and needs to do. The core is trying to figure out what to do exactly. Other than its own body light filling the room, it is mentally communicating with the Dungeon Network. The Dungeon Network can be compared to an online frequently asked question board. Having a website in its own head, the dungeon's mind glances through the page. It somehow conjures up more windows around the main one, skimming the various data. It absorbs the information, eyeing the many dungeons in Laria. Some dungeons are violent, some are passive, some are perverted, some are... just bad, and some have a mix of everything.
The [Dungeon Core] continues through the listing, noting every possible thing. It did get to a point where the dungeon used the network for other use. It still looks at the various dungeons, but it starts search for outlandish things. Things that weren't from its own world. This is not the first time a [Dungeon Core] or [Dungeon Master] made such a request. The Network allows the [Dungeon Core] access to materials outside of its universe.
Hours upon hours, days upon days, the gray [Dungeon Core] starts to glow... a dark red.
The dark red signifies the dungeon's calling. A system box appears before it, introducing a guide. The guide reads: How to start up your dungeon.
It starts to spend its Dungeon Points (DP). This was what the box says about getting DP:
There are many ways to get Dungeon Points.
Common Methods to get DP are as followed:
-Finding natural resources within your Domain
-Providing your service to visitors
-Construct a structure that can provide DP
-Have your creations go out and get stuff from the outside
Other Methods to get Dungeon Points:
-Conquering another Dungeon
-Destroying and/or Capturing another [Dungeon Core] or [Dungeon Master]
-Enslavement
-Having a Town/Settlement/City/Faction/Race worship you
And more...
Spending most of its points in expansion, it prays for some natural resources. Or something of value. The [Dungeon Core] starts to expand outwards. A small hole appears on the wall in front of the core. The hole slowly expands its shape, making an opening for a humanoid to walk through. On the other side of this opening, a new open room lies there. Another small hole appears on the furthest wall of this new room, repeating the same actions. Somehow, the core can feel where the outside world was at. It has an unknown urgency to get there. It slowly builds a path from its position to that inking sensation. As the core selects the area around it, it notes something.
The layout seems to be randomly generated. Upon its expansion, the new area reveals a rocky open area that mirrors the core's own room. These rooms were not here originally. The core, before it started its expansion, knows that the area was part of this mountain. There was no open room like it has now. This reveals some unknown force changed the rooms.
Why is this important?
Was this important?
The core just accepts this weird act. In the end, these unknown forces aid its goals.
After a few minutes, the core receives a couple of metallic veins, refunding the DP it spent. Or a good chunk of it. Once again, there were no rooms before. And there were certainly no life prior to the core's movements.
Slimes.
The blobby solid liquid creatures roll around the new room. They all turn to the newly rooms, laying their eyes on the bright red dungeon core.
A message notifies the [Dungeon Core] with this:
Because you are a [Beginner], any creatures before opening your domain to the outside world will automatically be under your command and can be created in your [Creation] tab. For this particular creation, when you go the [Creation] tab, the slimes will be in your [Monster] tab. More tabs will appear for the various beings you gain. When you select the slimes, there will be a detailed option for further customization.
Note: Certain functions and/or customization can be locked if you do not have the knowledge or items to make it happen. There are an endless amount of possibilities, but you will need to fulfill the requirements.
Repeating the steps, the [Dungeon Core] eyes at the slime's information.
A plethora of options appear. Skimming through it, the core cannot believe how one can completely create a unique creation for its purposes. There is a downside though. The requirements to unlock these customizations vary. There are some functions that do not have any requirements. An example would be the size of its creation. The core can make a giant slime, however, the price demands a lot of DP. A nifty feature the core notice are the discounts. At the moment, the dungeon core had none, but if the dungeon has certain beings, like a giant, or any knowledge of gigantification, the DP costs may lower.
For now, the core decides to change the color. Due to its own color change, the core can give the slime a red hue. Sadden, the core can only make basic red slimes. It will hunt for these customization functions later. Finalizing it, the [Dungeon Core] mentally hits the Confirm button.
A sudden light burst in front of the [Dungeon Core].
Its first monster.
The [Dungeon Core] stared at its simple creation.
A red slime. Its size was close to a cat. It seems to match the blue slimes the core discovered, but in a red hue.
[Red Tickler Slime]
[Level 1]
[Cost: 3 DP]
A basic slime made to attack and tickle any being who enters the dungeon.
The [Dungeon Core] eyes the blue slimes. Rolling or slithering, the blue slimes appear before the dungeon core and red slime. The core did not order them to do this. The blue slimes form up behind the red one, acknowledging their new master.
[Blue Slime]
[Level 3]
[Cost: 5 DP]
A slime that can absorb, gather, and attack.
The core gaze at its floating currency window.
102 DP
Frustration.
Trying to vent its emotion, the core just... stood there. Shining. Red light blasts through the rooms. The effect... just lights up the darkness. If a stranger entered, they would think the core was acting as some disco ball. A red only shining disco ball. The only other observers, the slimes, roll about, trying to match the core's random outburst. Halting its futile attempts, the core reigns in their thoughts. In all honesty, the starting DP was very small. Key structures like the DP Generator were out of its reach.
Why did it start with a small wallet of DP?
Ignoring the lingering question, the core sighs.
Whatever.
It used up the remaining points for its survival. An identical core appears on its' left. This is a decoy core. If one approach and touch the decoy, it will fizzle out. As for its real core, it decides to create a hole underneath itself. The core disappears into the small, cramped space it made. It reconstructs the rocky ground above it. It constructs the space around it, making a small dark room. It decides to give itself some more space, but it did not spend too much. It also constructed a small path to the above, creating a trapdoor.
It uses the remaining points to create a few more red slimes. Due to its spending, the system automatically paves a path from its homeroom to a way to the outside world.
There are two big rules dungeons must abide by or else they will be terminated.
This is all it can do for its survival for now. Who knows how the first encounter will play out.
It only has 27 DP left.
It has to spend 25 DP to open its dungeon into the world. The core can feel the outside world through one of the walls. The [Dungeon Core] ordered its creations to get ready, telling them what to do. Despite the information it read over, there are so much things it has to figure out. The core just shakes its nonexistent head at the sheer amount of things it will have to tackle. Not only will it have to update and keep up with its own internal systems and purpose, it will have to tackle the things outside of these walls.
But one thing for certain, it wanted to do what it read and saw from that other world.
Once the slimes receive their orders, the [Dungeon Core] executes the command.
The core can feel the sudden connection into the world, the message asks it:
What is the name of your dungeon?
The [Dungeon Core] happily calls it...
