the official redskins whooped the cowboys thread

makemlaugh2003 said:
A three-point win might be considered a "whooping" in hockey, but certainly not in football, especially when the 'Skinnies caught a huge break with that bogus "fifteen yard" face mask penalty. I would personally call the FIRST Cowboys-Redskins matchup this year a whooping (which I believe the 'BOYS were victorious in), and in any event it's a teensy feather in the Redskins' '06 cap, which at this juncture kinda looks like a beanie. Ol' Joe needs to go back to NASCAR, and take Terrell Owens with him (PLEASE).
Wait a second, there was a face mask penalty. That was as clear as day. That was not bogus. But tell Fiend that you are tired of B.O.'s act. Let's also keep in mind that is the Dallas team's ONLY divisional win. You have now lost 3 straight divisional games since. You guys are going to need help to win this thing.

If you make the 2 pointer or if you go for one you still lose on the firld goal my friend. I already admitted that the rest of the team sucked especially with the 150 plus yards in penalites. But B.O. contributed 10 percent of those yards on penalties and dropped the pass that would have been the difference between the win and a loss. Let's think about it, had he caught the pass it would have been a 26-19 game. So the Redskins would not have been going for a field goal to win the game. Do you understand??? You paid this guy to be a difference maker. My question is, has he??? But I will be fair Fiend, this team would stink with him or without him. But without him, you guys wouldn't be a target to the media, there would be less drama. Tell me if you agree with any of that.

If they make the two pointer, then the Redskins would have never blocked the kick. The Cowboys would have been ahead 20-19 after Novak missed the field goal and would have ran the clock out. Do you understand?

And if T.O. caught that pass it would have been a 26-12 game. He dropped it and the defense still had a chance to stop them and they made mistakes also. You still follow?

They pay all of the players a lot of money and they all made mistakes. T.O. was part of it, as I've stated once before, but you're trying to blame the entire loss on him.

He is a big distraction. Let's face it. Your team is suffering because of his distractions. Are you following that??? It is easy to blame B.O. because you fans thought you were Super Bowl bound because you got him. Now you will struggle to make the playoffs.

We don't think we are Super Bowl bound because of him. If we had the team that the Raiders or Cardinals had, we wouldn't be talking Super Bowl. We already had the D in place and him coming made our team much better. There are many receivers in the league as good as him. Vanderjagt's kick wasn't blocked because Colombo was thinking about T.O. while he was on the field. T.O. did a celebration that got 15 yards but wasn't a factor in the outcome. So how did he distract anyone on the field?

It is a factor. It affects field position. Don't you understand that??? But if he made you a better team then why didn't you get your 4th loss last year until the first week of December??? And why is Philadelphia doing better than a year ago???

I touched that guy's face mask almost as much as the Cowboys' player did

That's why they have TWO degrees of the penalty: the incidental five-yard infraction and the personal foul, hey-I'm-gonna-twist-your-head-off variety. CLEARLY, what happened on that blocked kick return was a five-yarder, and even the biggest Big D hater would have to agree. Dallas gave them the game, pure and simple.
Having said that, the Cowboys were never a Super Bowl contender even with the T. O. signing, and I can freely admit that. Being a TRUE Cowboys fan, like being a loyal fan of any team in any sport, involves recognizing when your guys need help. We HAVE to get serious about the quarterback position, and that means drafting one in the first round next June, pure and simple. Plus, Jason Witten needs to be utilized more (I COMPLETELY disagree with the two tight end set...what the Hell happened to the fullback position in pro ball?) and they need to quit signing knuckleheads like T. O. and Mike Vanderjagt who, while they obviously have great talent, are major distractions and locker room cancers. And, of course, Jerry Jones must be stopped. The George Steinbrenner of the NFL has NO clue about the game of football, outstanding businessman that he is nonwithstanding. He's run both Tom Landry and Jimmy Johnson out of there during his reign, and they are responsible for coaching four of the 'Boys five Super Bowl teams. 'Nuff said.
But let's get real about the 'Skinnies, too: they have no real quarterback, wide receiver is iffy, they STILL haven't figured out how to properly utilize Clinton Portis, and the original Hogs of the '80s, who'd have to be in their fifties by now, could still whip the O-Line the Skins have now. The only two true playoff calibre teams in the NFC East are the Eagles, who have only to combat rampant inconsistency, and the Giants, who need a bit more seasoning from Eli Manning in order to truly contend. I'd be giddy if the 'Boys went 9-7 and missed the playoffs, which would prove that T. O. does more harm than good (which virtually everyone knows already) AND that, in spite of his distractive nature, the team perservered enough to finish above .500. Give me guys like Terry Glenn and Roy Williams any day, guys who just come to work, shut the hell up, and play very, very well. A few more Cowboys like that at key positions (and a few more Redskins, for that matter) would help the cause greatly.

Probably because they had a lot of injuries last year. And the Redskins ended up with the ball at the 34. It's not that big of deal. And the 4th loss came against the Broncos on Thanksgiving, which is in November.

What do you mean get serious at the QB position? Unless Romo somehow takes a turn for the worse, why draft a QB? If they drafted one it wouldn't be early and it would only be as a backup. I think Romo is finally the answer and they can focus on the O-line and WR.

Let's not get too Romo-happy just yet...

...after all, he's only started two games, and yes, he's performed well in both of them, but already the media has made Tom Brady comparisons (mostly because Drew Bledsoe "gave way" to both being able to start) and it's obviously VERY premature. You have to look at the entire team dynamic in Dallas to truly evaluate Romo. He'll easily be intimidated by T. O.'s ball demands and feel compelled to force more passes into coverage toward him rather than dump down or check off to a more open receiver, since Romo's new and young. Plus Julius Jones has struggled a tad running the ball at times, and until the Cowboys develop a more conistent and reliable ground game, defenses will go harder after Romo with blitz packages and force him into making poor decisions. Yes, he's refreshingly mobile and agile, especially for a Dallas quarterback, but that's not to confuse him with Michael Vick or, for that matter, even Randall Cunningham in his heyday. I also believe drafting a high-profile quarterback would give the Cowboys two young options and perhaps press Romo into better reaching his potential if he were concerned that there was realistic, fresh competition for his job.
Finally, a quarterback must obviously be a leader, and Romo cannot be expected to fill that role on the team as of yet. He might make a fair enough stopgap for the Cowboys to muddle through a fairly respectable season, but as a long-term solution? Well, I'll believe it when I see it.

AND don't assume a "late" drafted QB would only be a backup...

...Tom Brady wasn't drafted til very late, Tony Romo himself wasn't drafted at ALL, and let's not forget that a fairly decent signal-caller named Joe Montana wasn't a first-rounder either. Honestly, I'm still in firm belief that the Cowboys had a decent one in the making in Quincy Carter (a third-round draft choice), but Bill Parcells gave him the shaft in order to implement one of "his guys" (Vinny Testaverde, remember?). On the second or even the third round, fairly surprising starting options at quarterback are always still on the board and merely need the proper setting and circumstances in order to thrive.

I'm not comparing Romo to Brady and I'm sure no one in Dallas is. The media always is ready to compare people and I've learned a lone time ago to not care about their thoughts. I think Romo is the answer and will prove it for the rest of the season. And I don't think anyone ever confused him with Vick or Cunningham but, they won't ocnfuse his mobility with that of Bledsoe. His mobility has helped to limit sacks but the O-line has been doing a better job also. And the only thing Romo is new to is starting. He's been there since Parcells came so it wasn't a big surprise to me that he's has played so well thus far. It may be too early to say he's the answer but it is also too early to count him out. I truly believe Romo is the answer and I am enjoying watching him play. I think he will lead America's Team into the playoffs.

You know what??? I am an American and they ARE NOT my team. With B.O. on that team they are more like America's garbage. And as Jim Mora would say, " PLAYOFFS??? PLAYOFFS???" Fiend, get OVER .500 by 3 games before you start talking playoffs for America's SEWER TRAP!!!

Nothing to do with a wife, house or child. All I did was call the Dallas Cowboys America's Team, which they are. That wasn't the focus of what I wrote but for some reason you chose to pin point that. You and many others are jealous that the Cowboys are America's Team. I didn't say nor do I think that this is something you think about daily, something that eats at you. If your team was America's Team you would have no problem with it. It's a nickname and it's here to stay. Get over it.

Who made them America's team??? Does that mean that being a Bears fan or a Chiefs fan or a Steelers fan or a Giants fan or a Broncos fan or an Eagles fan or any other fan mean that we are less than American??? Is that what that means??? I don't get the concept!!! If they are America's team then doesn't that mean that EVERY single American should be rooting for that team??? I mean Eagles fans the Eagle is the symbol of America, isn't it??? Doesn't the Redskins represent the Naive American??? Isn't the Patriots a sign of an American Loyality??? How did all of a sudden a Cowboy represent America??? Can you explain that??? I would think that there are better choses, don't you think??? I mean they haven't even been around as long as the Steelers or the Lions or the Packers. How did the Cowboys suddenly represent me??? An a American born and raise long before you were a itch in your Papa's pants.

Well unfortunately it has nothing to do with a teams name or mascot. Has nothing to do with longevity. It's just a name they were given because of all of the fans they have. It started in the very late 70's when it was the title of the previous seasons', the 78 season, highlight film. They noticed then that no matter where you went there were fans of the team there. In other words they have a lot of fans all over America. The Cowboys were and still are a very popular team and always will be. The greatest franchise in football and one of the greatest in all of sports.

Better than the Green Bay Packers??? Better than the Pittsburgh Steelers storied history??? Better than the Baltimore Colts or better than the old Cleveland Browns??? I gave you teams that have been in this league LONG before Dallas was even a sports market. By the way, you will find if you travel this great country of our that there are Packers fans and Steelers fans and Colts fans and Jets fans all over this great nation. It is NOT exclusive to Dallas having fans everywhere. There are Raiders fans and Broncos fans and Dolphins fans nationwide. One of the GREATEST franchises in all of sports??? Let's see, we have the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox, and the Montreal Canadians and the New York Rangers and the Chicago Bears, Blackhawks, Cubs and White Sox. How about the St.Louis Cardinals??? Or maybe the New York Knicks or even the Boston Celtics. There are teams either with more winning traditions or just a tradition that makes them BETTER than Dallas. And I hate the majority of these teams I mentioned but they have bigger and better history with fan all over this country and the world. Dallas can't even begin to scratch the surface. One more thing, how popular were they in 1988 and 1989 when the stadium was empty.

OK, now, calm down boys. Its getting a little heated here. We are entitled to like who we like, and let's leave it at that. Calling teams or people out of their name is not necessary

"America's team" was a nickname given long ago, and by no means does that represent all Americans

so please chill out a little bit. It is not that serious :wowzer:

btw Redskin fans: despite your win, you are still in last place. Put that in your pipe and smoke it

And '88 and '89 were bad year but...

The Dallas Cowboys NFL-record of consecutive games in front of sold out stadiums comes to an end on Dec. 24, 1999 in A Christmas Eve game against the New Orleans Saints in the Louisiana Superdome. The streak, which included home and away games, came to a halt after 160 games. It began on December 23, 1990 at Philadelphia's Veterans Stadium and included 79 straight sellouts at Texas Stadium (including playoffs) and 81 straight sell-outs on the road (including playoffs).

I never call any team or player, no matter how much I hate them, out of name. Second, I never said they represented all of America but, they still are America's Team. And this is nothing personal, just a "debate."

No!!! You just say how much my team sucks yet your team has the same record as my team. And we have less talent but a heck of a lot more desire. But I guess it is not everyday a team can get a 15 yard penalty from a selfish player and drop a 72 yard bomb in the same game then tell everyone how great he is. He is a difference maker. He made the difference between winning and losing on Sunday and probably knocked the 'Girls from the playoffs. That is a REAL difference maker. :triangle:

Well the Cowboys are better than the Jets. And I'm pretty sure that T.O. didn't tell anyone how great he is this week. Actually he's told the world that it was his fault and he let the team down. I don't know what you were watching. So the difference between winning and losing wasn't the 153 yards in penalties, third most in club history? Or the blown assignment on the blocked kick? T'was the drop?

Had he not dropped the ball it would have been a TD and you wouldn't have had a FG blocked. And the record indicates that you are NOT better than the Jets. If you are better than the Jets why does your record read the same as ours. But what happen to all those sellouts by the Giants. I will give you something else, the Jets have soldout every game since 1988. So we suck but our fans are there. You can't say that every year for your team.

A lot of things could have happened that could have won the game. And the record may be the same but the 'Boys are better.
