The Passion of the Christ...

Nope im Not MrMacphisto. im being very serious with Both things i said! this is what my dad (who is also a christian) Told me two nights ago. i don't have a link to any website about this since he heard it off some radio station but it is true.....

Qtip... it's quite likely that the stories you mentioned are propaganda. Unfortunately, a lot of Christian (or otherwise religious) radio stations spread a lot of questionably accurate material to their viewers. It's kind of like how Rush Limbaugh will often assert something that might have a basis in truth, but he'll twist it to suit his needs. Whether or not Gibson himself has spread these rumors about himself and the movie is unknown, but I'd be very skeptical of stories like the ones you just mentioned. The chances of someone surviving a direct lightning strike are very low. Lee Trevino is perhaps the most famous survivor of such a thing, but he is a statistical anomaly. In short, don't believe everything you hear from the radio or any other media in general....

i don't know if i'll be able to come up with a link for the other story that my Dad told me about Mel Gibson and in the Dark alley way. But at least you have one Link about the lighting strike that happend!

I've seen it yesterday, and i must say it was a great movie. Very, very graphic, but it seems Gibson left some things out, It seemed as if he could have done more. If you feel skittish, I don't recommend this movie, because when I did go, during the film some people were throwing up

That was an interesting article... Although, I gotta say... If I started getting struck by lightning during the filming of a movie about Christ, I'm not sure if I'd take that as a sign of divine approval. Isn't the lightning strike traditionally seen as something that God does to you, if he's pissed off at you? lol

I keep hearing about the lightning strike, which is interesting. Traditionally, most of the actors who have played Christ in major films, from the silent era on, have had something bad happen to them, Max Von Sydow being the exception. Dang, even Phil Hartman.... that just came to me.

Anyway, I hope they left out the midichlorian angle this time......

He also got injured in one of the beating scenes where the actor was supposed to hit a pole and hit him instead and knocked him to the ground from the force and the pain of the whip. He also mentioned on Jay Leno that his initials are J. C. and he's 33 years old.

Talk about conincidences!

So maybe Gibson could also have cast James Caan, Jackie Chan, Jim Carrey, or James Coco in the role?

Jim Carrey or Jackie Chan would make interesting choices, but would you go see the movie with either of them playing Jesus? I don't think so. They're barely tolerable in the roles they play.

Just was making a comment about the interview on Jay Leno the other night.

Jim Carrey as Christ? I'd see that if it wasn't as preachy as Bruce Almighty was....

and actor that portrayed Jesus Christ got hit by lighting while still on the Cross and his hair was burned up to a crisp. Now if thats not the hand of God blessing down on mel gibson during that scene and movie then i do NOT KNOW WHAT IS🙂

The lead actor gets struck by lightening and that's supposed to be God being pleased!??

I'd hate to be around when he's pissed off. :scared:

I think it's like the stigmata thing. By suffering FOR Christ it's seen as a blessing. The guy survived, after all.

Something bothers me about the phenomenon of stigmata. I've heard about quite a few cases and they all involve the people concerned bleeding from the hands, feet and possibly forehead (presumably where the crown of thorns drew blood); thus they're considered to be manifesting the wounds of Christ as a signal or blessing from God.

Problem...

The Romans never crucified people with nails through their hands, for a number of reasons, chief among which was the propensity for the nails to tear straight through the flesh and the victim to flop down and hang from the supporting ropes. (Or clean down to the ground before they were used.) Roman crucifictions were done by hammering the stakes through the lower forearm, just above the wrist and between the radius and ulna bones. HOWEVER, not one single depiction of Christ on the cross whether it be in a film, painting, crucifix or statue(that I've seen), has ever shown Him with the stakes anywhere but through the palms of his hands. My thinking? That stigmata is a classic example of psychosomatic physical manifestation. In other words you believe hard enough, you work yourself into a suitably mouth-frothing religious frenzy and it'll manifest on you. I've long believed in the power of the mind over matter, howsoever it's demonstrated. I believe that this is as good an explanation as any for physical stigmata. Following this train of thought, Jesus could have been completely fictional and stigmata would still occur under the right emotional and psychological circumstances. Why else would it appear where the Romans never banged in the nails, but where the church and Hollywood has always erroneously depicted it?

I am going to see it tommorow. Big Jim is right about the nails thing though. I heard that the guy was struck by lightning while on the cross and two times while they where carrying him to the ambulance. Also he was hit whith a portion of the cat of nine tails. I think the devil was trying to stop this. And I think I speak for everyone when I say I can't wait for the DVD extras.

Psycho

I've seen proper depictions of crucifiction, so I guess it depends on the crowd you run with.

It's not specifically about stigmata, it's the concept of stigmata, the idea of being chosen to suffer for a higher power, that is the blessing.

Or the belief that you think you have, and so create the physical aspect with the power of the mind?

Agh, who cares...

Precisely. The actor got hit by lightning becuase he thought he was blessed and his mind created the physical aspect of lightning. He was also on a big stick higher up than anyone else.

"i never cared for that whole "the Jews Killed Christ" argument. the bottom line is that Christ was sacrificed as part of God's salvation plan - He ordained it from before the creation of the world. Christ was incarnated to die. "

Right you are, Brad. I can't understand how this gets lost in the fray, you know?
I'm gonna wait till it comes out on cable. That way I can sit there with my best friends and make running commentary throughout the film (a la 'Mystery Science Theater 3000') without bothering other filmgoers. I usually find myself doing that with anything Mel Gibson makes, anyway. You should've heard the repartee during 'The Patriot' that we had.

During Jesus' time, hundreds of thousands of people were tortured, mutilated, and crucified within the borders of the Roman Empire. It's possible that a goodly number of them were subversives, troublemakers, undesirables...just like You Know Who. Some of them probably died for a cause that they were quite willing to sacrifice their lives for, and undergo anything the authorities were willing to dish out. Jesus wasn't the only individual to suffer through this tremendous ordeal. Sometimes, I get the feeling that many people I talk to think otherwise.

I find that many folks who seem to be preoccupied with the people who persecuted Jesus are Pharissees themselves, and would not suffer a Jesus in their midst telling them that what they're doing is wrong...
🙄

I saw it today. It was really good. It isnt something to take your kids to though unless you are one of those fire and brimestone people. Oh and the Jews didn't kill Jesus he laid his life down. They say when your hanging on the cross you can't breath unless you push yourself up with your legs. This is why they broke peoples legs when being crucified, but when they got to Jesus he was already dead. Also if you hate Jews please remember that Jesus was a Jew.

I was referring to stigmata, not the actor.
