^ should know that the FDA determined that Carter's pills (1) had nothing to do with and in no way affected the liver, and (2) had no health benefit of any kind, and so they were put out of business by being forbidden to advertise. All of this happened before you were born.
 
^ should not be surprised that worthless remedies were sold back in the 1950's (and further back going to the snake oil vendors of the 19th century).
