The Ring: scariest f*cking movie I ever saw

Well....

Thats a little something in the movie biz we call a "teaser"...its meant to get peoples jaw to drop without actually knowing anything about the movie at all, just shock them. Most likely you'll see the actual trailers about 5-6 months before the movie comes out....
 
And one ring to scare them all...

Okay, I downloaded "The Ring" off of KaZaA tonight; just finished watching it...ok...never gonna sleep again...freakin', freakin' scary stuff.


Here's the spoiler:

A lady and her husband cannot have children. Actually, the lady isn't supposed to have children. But they go away one year, and they come back with a child. But this child makes Regan from the Exorcist look like Betty Boo.
Now, either the Lady is Satan's bride or they make a pact with Satan to have the child...either way, the child is a demon (literally). The mother tries to end the child's life, but makes matters worse when the child becomes the undead. Not possessive of mortal coil anymore, the only way the demon can get around is through videotape.
Watch the tape, and seven days later your tv suddenly turns on by itself, and the freakin' demonchild comes through the tv screen into your living room and commits unspeakable acts upon your bod (not unlike some of us 'lers do, eh?).
The only way not to get killed, it seems, is to make a copy of the tape and show it to some hapless patsy b4 your 7 days are up so that the demon will go after whoever watched the tape last.

Very interesting plot. I esp. liked the way that the horsies could sense the evil presence and committed suicide. Now, that's entertainment!!

Have much more to say aboot this film (here we go!!), but am too spent right now.

Part of why its "freakin scary stuff" is because YOU DONT KNOW ANYTHING UNTIL THE END!!!! Great point, Ice. And an often misunderstood one, since most peeps started using KaZaA only after Napster went kerplunk...

Listen up peeps, for those of youz who don't already know, you can get everything plus the kitchen sink off of KaZaA. Anything you need that can fit inside your computer, KaZaA will have.

I.e., you do not need to buy a single piece of software again. Period. You do not need to rent/buy another movie again (well, maybe tickling). Period. Yes, even porn. You need never buy an audio CD again. Period. Just download the songs and make your own compilation.

So, let's say, par example, a movie called The Ring comes out in theatres and you're not sure if you want to shell out the $12.50 (Cdn) to see it. Well, some dude in Singapore, or Sweden, or wherever, has already taken the original film, copied it, or at least has filmed it direct from the theatre itself (pls. remember that in many parts of world, their movie release dates are earlier than ours...) and has put it in mpeg format for you to see. So, depending on the bandwith that evening, you can be enjoying a new release in aboot 3 hrs or so. It gets even better when a movie comes out on DVD, for the quality of said movie will also be DVD quality (full screen).

This is the main reason why so many movies (like SW: Attack of the Clones, Spiderman, MIB II, etc.) are coming out on DVD so fast these days. They actually have to compete with programs like KaZaA that offer them for free.

I'm not ranting because I like to bitch man. People who know me well will tell you I'm really very mellow and layed back. But not only am I an avid film fanatic, I also hope to break into that industry one day and people who spoil movies like that are a bane to the film community. You're telling me you NEVER EVER get angry if someone ruins a movie for you before you can see it? There are people who do this professionally (like those fangeeks that get the new Star Wars scripts months before the movie comes out) and set back the studios hundreds of thousands of dollars because with the secrets ruined, people dont have a reason to see it. (Or at least wait until it comes out on video.)

I did flip out kinda though....sorry about that big type...LOL

True enuff, Jim, you do sound like an old fart (kidding!! kidding, mate 😀 ).

Actually, you've hit the nail on the head yet again, my English friend. T'was the downfall of Napster, if you recall. Problem with KaZaA, however, is that there are no servers, per se, to shut down, as each computer that shares files on KaZaA acts as a server for the other computers.

Sumpin' like that...

As for copyrighted infringements, you are right as well, although after years of shelling out $20 (Cdn) for one or two songs on an audio CD has embittered me towards the music industry; shelling out money for bad movies each week at the movie theatres has embittered towards the movie industry; and finally, buying software for $50 only to have the updated version come out the following week has...

Well, you get the picture.

Downloaded RINGU (Jap. version). Almost the same, scene for scene, as The Ring, although they let you in on a couple of more secrets...

As well, the demonchild is not that scary. Well, not by our heavily-desensitized NA pov.

Ok,

I finaly went and saw it. It was a very good movie. However, I do not think that it was as scarry as it was made up to be. I felt that they used so much "sounds and effects" to startle viewers that it was more "Jumpy" than anything else. And I busted up laughing when the horse jumped of the edge of the boat!!!

Actually, this was the american version of a japanese film. I'm sure it's in the opening credits (It should be at any rate), but there you go. Personally I would buy the original version, because japanese horror is truly weird. Then again most imported horror films are weird. Who can forget Italian zombie movies, or the classy british Hammer horror films? Do yourself a favor, get out of watching the standard hollywood fare and go for a differnt culture. You'll be freaked when you do 😛

We are all aware of Ringu, my friend.

But you have a salient point aboot foreign horrors - I absolutely adore them. They seem to simplify where the west complifies (new word!); use a mountain of compounding dread while Hollywood uses a mountain of CGI, SP, and make-up; and let's the dialogue flow much better than their western counterparts (and that ain't just the crack talkin'). Exceptions to all the above, of course, but being an avid horror buff, one would be remiss by just sticking to one side of the world...
