The title says it all... What was the scariest moment or level you ever had to endure in a video- or computer game? Here are mine:

1) The Showdown of Resident Evil II - A thunderstorm over my town made it much worse!

2) The classic dog-jumping-trough-the-window-scene in Resident Evil,

3) The insanity-effects in Eternal Darkness - Sanity's Reqiuem,

4) The first half hour of Doom³,

5) Laugh at me, but the nightly phone-calls by unknown persons in "The Sims" were pretty terrifying!

6) Resident Evil 4, the first time being surrounded by mad villagers who want to kill you in the most horrible ways was horrible!

7) Now I'm starting the Thief chapter: The Bonehoard, where you had to steal a famed horn from the crypt of the Quintus family (Halls of Echoing Repose, wasn't it?). This distant horn music down there between all these zombies was spine chilling.

8) The Abysmal Gale in Deadly Shadows. A rotten ship full of zombies!! Does it get any better?? YES!

9) Return to the Cathedral in Thief I... That was the first time I had to end a game because I was so terrified I couldn't continue.

10) It took me about 3 days to complete this level, the scariest moment I have ever played: The Shalebridge Cradle in Thief: Deadly Shadows. I still have mental scars from playing this. For those, who dont know (without much spoilers): The cradle was an orphanage, after this it was a madhouse and after that both in the same time. Then a little girl vanished while playing with her friend, who said "The Hag" or "Gray, Old Woman", an urban legend in The City, killed her. After that, the whole building burned down in a "demonic fire"... And many many years after, you have to enter that building to search details of this old hag... Garrett, the cynical bastard you are playing doesnt fear anything and is bold as a brass, but for the first time you enter the cradle he is really anxious, you can hear it in his voice ("A vial of blood... Grrrrm, and it's still warm! ...Great!!") xD
Mad screams in the distant corridors, something moving at the top of the building and the closer you get to there, you hear a knocking on the door to the attic which changes into a wild thumping... Then you open it and... Well, play it for yourself 😉 I really have to say that was the most atmospheric, gruesome level I've ever played, Doom³ is a children's birthday party against this. Get a decent soundcard supporting EAX 4.0 and surround speakers, turn down the lights and wait till you are all alone... And then enter the most terrifying gathering of polygons and pixels ever commited in gaming history 😉

Now its your turn!

the scariest moment in game history for me was in the psone game "clock tower" (my fav game of all time) ...when your in the police station, and you get a fax from the killer "scissorman" that says "im comin' for ya!" written in blood ...for some reason, that creeped me out big time.

I'd have to go with the "Dog through the Window" thing in the first Resident Evil. Shocked the living shit out of me when I first went through it.

You haven't experienced fear until you've played System Shock 2, late at night, with all the lights off, and the sound turned way up...

I started System Shock 2 some days ago but somehow I don't like it... It's definately a great game, but I don't like the setting. And as an arachnophobe... I HATE LEVEL 4!! No, I'll never play that game again, disgusting! I played System Shock 1, thats enough for now 😉

My scariest gaming moment was in Thief 2 when you're listening at the door while the villains build one of those cyborg servants out of a homeless person. I was seriously spooked by that. That whole game was incredibly creepy, more so than the ones before and after it in my opinion.

System Shock 1 was also fantastic.. but something in 2 just sparked intense fear in me.. the psychic ghosts... the way the Many-infested humans would beg and plead for you to kill them as they attacked you... brrr.

Scariests game series, silent hill. Particulerly the first one. However, here are some of the moments i found extremely creepy.

Silent hill 1
1. The school. Your exploring a school, and you walk into the girls washroom. And out of nowhere, you hear a little girl sobbing. It only lasts a few seconds, but it sends shivers down my spine every time.

2. Also the school. You exploring the school, and suddenly you hear a phone ring. You pick up the phone, and you hear the voice of your daughter. "Help me daddy...where are you?" Very disturbing.

Silent hill 2.

1.Your exploring an abondoned civil war prison. Just walking through the rows of jail cells is creepy as hell.

In fact, the entire series is creepy, so i suggest if you want some scares go rent it.

I almost forgot about Silent Hill. That was a creepy game. I remember the school and the little girl crying...very unsettling. Also, when those half-invisible little things start walking around your feet.....ick....

Scariest game?

E.T. The Extraterrestrial for the Atari 2600.

I still wake up in a sweat from time to time, remembering the horror of it :evilha:

But seriously folks.....

Back in '86 at Northern Michigan University, I blew a lot time playing games on my buddy Jeff's computer. He had a game version of "Friday The 13th". It was a pretty basic game graphics-wise...the goal was basically to wander the Camp and try to stop Jason from killing the camp counselors. You would follow characters around as they wandered to and fro. When you entered a cabin, it would switch to an interior view. But sometimes when you entered the cabin😱

it would switch to a full-screen picture of a guy with a machete slammed into his head, accompanied by a speaker-shattering scream :yowzer:

Late at night, usually wiped out from a party, that would still knock me on my ass.

The end is near. Make Preparations. Or something like that

The scariest moment in gaming for me?

Turn 2 of any game of "Civilization"

... at which point I know I've just ransomed the next 36 to 40 hours of my life to "one more turn" syndrome.

In fact, I think I have that game lying around here somewhere....

I just rented Doom III and played it in my A/V room on a 60" HD LCD with 7.1 surround sound and 150 watt subwoofer; at night, in the pitch black.

The rumbling in the game is enough to vibrate my chest cavity, but all the whispers and maniacal screams in the distance keep you on edge. That game scares the shit out of me in that enviornment. I had to pause it and come out of the room every now and then, just to make sure I was still in Kansas.
