Well... if I can venture a guess, then probably because of the same reason I didnt: Because it's something they don't need/want to know. I know that I wouldn't like if my kid came up to me and said 'Daddy, I just masturbated.'
Best to let kids keep that for themselves.

As I said, it's healthy in many ways, both physical and mental. The only ones having probs with it are churches, but they consider any form of enjoying sex a sin. I am an atheist in a Catholic country, but I took religion classes so I could see if their teachings would be something I could accept. They weren't.
I remember what my religion teacher said on the Church's attitude towards sex: "We should make sex as unenjoyable as possible. The less we enjoy it, the lesser the sin."
Such a viewpoint is, IMO, stupid and backwards. From doctors, medical experts (so, people who know something about it and about your body), I've only heard that sex and masturbation is healthy. Therefore, there's nothing wrong with it.
