"The Story of O" By Pauline Réage
For those of you who have not read it, a classic French erotic story... very sensual and romatic in it's own way. I found this site on the net... not sure if it's complete, you might want to get the book, but hope you enjoy... one of my favorites!

I remember this one! In this one book I read (Perfect Victim), it was the favorite book/movie of the guy who kidnapped a girl and held her in a box under his bed for years. Its what prompted him to call her 'K'.

I read that and found it disgusting. Romance in BDSM means the sub consents to things - O never consented to anything. He takes her into a room and allows her to be raped without ever discussing it with her first? And there's no tickling in it so I don't see why it's in this forum. It's about as realistic to BDSM as Anne Rice's take in Exit To Eden and the Sleeping Beauty Trilogy. Which is not at all.

Where's the consent? Where's the discussion? Did you know in the original version actually ends with O asking her master for permission to die and he grants it to her? Die! After letting a bunch of people at a party do what they now called the "train" on her he just lets her die.

ahh he posted the story here because he said my one story reminded him of this tale.. and i had never heard of this story of O, so he posted the link.. i now remember that i had read it before, in the bdsm library forum.. i also was concerned about her dying, which i read. i don't really care for those type of stories..

but thank you Feathery for providing the link, as i said i now remember having read it before.. a very sad tale.

lol....I've read the sleeping beauty trilogy you're talking about... a friend had the books and told me I should read them 😉 oh man, yikes! I was half fascinated and half disgusted... though it seemed like disgust was more of it. It wasn't really offensive, seeing as it was only a long-winded masturbational fantasy for someone into the sort of stuff they do in the book. No tickling, so it wasn't really my cup of tea. but yeah, I found it extremely unrealistic too... it was a world of constant sex; none of the men or women ever became tired, sore, or sick... and perhaps most unrealistically, none of the women ever got pregnant, even though they all screwed a variety of guys with no protection whatsoever 😉

Or got diseases even though there was many times that they were doing it with strangers - and I'm sorry, but a woman isn't going to be raped and turn around and enjoy it. She's going to be traumatized, not want to be touched - not sitting around enjoying some weirdo shoving the hilt of a knife up her vagina or a cat licking butter off her vulva.

And notice how all the men in those stories are bisexual. Not a single one who isn't totally straight or totally gay. The real world doesn't work like that.

Sorry if in my original post I came off as - witchy - but I hate it when people try to protray these books as "romance" and "true representation of the BDSM lifestyle" when they're not. God I wish someone would write a book along the lines of O - but showing a TRUE BDSM relationship, complete with them sitting down and talking about things before the sub agrees to it, hard limits ("No, I will NOT consent to anal play/penetration of ANY type."), the respect of there-of, and of course fill it with tickling as well as spankings and whippings.

Out of curiosity, Jami, do you object to non-consensual elements in tickling stories as well?

good grief

You know, personally, when I read or write bdsm related erotica, I really don't care to hear about the negotiations and the agreements and the safe, sane, consensual nonsense - I want to read the nitty-gritty, if you will. I want the dirt of the story and that's it.

Why? Because it's a fantasy. It's not meant to be realistic and and it's not meant to be read as a guide.

I don't mean to come down on you, but I hear this over and over again - the same complaint; "it's not realistic!" Of course it's not, for heaven sakes. Just like Penhouse stories aren't realistic and a lot of soft porn is FAR from realistic - what woman SMILES and 'moans softly' while she's having an orgasm? None. Not one. Not if they're really climaxing.

I just wish people would stop bitching about bdsm fantasies being unrealistic. If you need realism, read Different Loving.

Just my opinion, of course 😉

I get the vague impression that at least a few of us in this thread are unfamiliar with this story. A better explaination is here, but I'll sum it up:

This story was written in 1954 by a French woman who was interested in this lifestyle and happened to be an author. The story was published under a pseudonym and was immediately critically praised and publically scorned. This is probably the single most famous story about BDSM -- several terms and phrases originated here, and songs, movies, and other stories have been written based on this book.

The story was written before BDSM was talked about, even in closed quarters; before the term BDSM had been coined. Sexually transmitted diseases were rare, the use of protection much rarer, and no "rules" about safety existed. Finally, like any story, what happens in this story is only what the author wanted to happen. It doesn't particularly matter whether you like it or not, the author liked it, and for the past 52 years, readers around the world have liked it.

At this point, it should be read more for historical significance than for realism, though as Redmage implied, there are many non-con stories in this forum, and even when consent is implied details are almost never discussed.

haha, yeah, that was part of why the sleeping beauty stories were funny... it was just silly reading a story where all the guys are completely hot for Beauty, but in the next scene they're taking it up the butt from another guy, or whatnot 😉

I have no problem with sexual fantasy writing, even if the fantasy is something I'm not into... but I have to say that after pages and pages and pages of descriptions of hard/wet/throbbing/pulsing/ramming/thrusting/grunting etc. it becomes a little ridiculous 😉 that's just me though. It is just a fantasy and it's harmless. I've written/read some pretty freaky stuff myself so I have no problem with non-con or weird sexual scenarios

Thank you for your insights. "The Story of O" should be treated and accepted for what it is... a story! A disturbing and somewhat sad tale it is, but that's what makes this work so intriguing.
