To give back to myself after 6 and a half long years of looking for love. It's time to take care of myself for a little while. I'm still looking all, it's just that over the last many years I completely gave up on me, to give everything to the her I haven't found yet.

First step: two root canals, any thoughts on these? According to various websites, they aren't painful, just take a few hours to do. According to my dentist, it is very painful, and still take two hours to do.

Usually it's the pain from the abscessing and infections that required needing the root canal initially that hurts the most. Once the numbing and prep is done, it's really not so bad. Unless your dentist got his degree at the "Dr. Mengele School Of Dentistry", he should give you enough of whatever you need to really not feel a thing during the procedure, and plenty of follow-up meds to get through anything left over. (I highly recommend requesting hydrocodone--but you know how that works with me, da? 😉 😀)

And glad to hear you're looking to yourself...you deserve it. :twohugs:

Good call on taking care of yourself. I do have thoughts relating to this, but it's after midnight and I'm too tired to be coherent about emotional matters. :idunno:

As for root canals - get a couple of shots of Novocaine directly to the gum line. It does sting like hell for a few seconds, but once it's kicked in, it'll make the root canal process much easier to handle.

Make sure you've got some Advil or Tylenol Extra Strength on standby for later on, though. Once the needles wear off, it can be sore for a day or two afterwards.

Good luck with it. :smilestar

I'm not looking for so much as emotional thoughts on this as I am with actual root canal ones, but either or is welcome and appreciated.

I don't have a date for the procedures planned yet, and it may not happen for a little while yet, just wanted to know how they are. Mom tells me I'll die, everybody else tells me I'll live, so, my own conclusion is: If I find a human who actually knows what they are doing, I'll be fine, if I don't I'll be in pain.

Respectfully speaking:

This is probably the wisest thing I've heard you say-good for you! What's even more interesting, love has this strange thing of finding you when you're not looking! Good luck in your pursuits; I truly hope you find what you're looking for.

Secondly, root canals suck and I've had my share of them! The worst part though is the novacaine. Once the root is removed, then the pain goes away and so do your tooth problems.

If you don't mind spending a few extra bucks, I'd recommend that you have an endodontist do your root canals, particularly if the teeth are molars ( two, sometimes three roots. )
Endodontists are specialists.
Your regular dentist can then take impressions and do the crowns for you.
