It's shows like this that make me look forward to the zombie apocalypse. The character driven focus is what really appeals to me, the zombies have become part of the ecology, its the characters that provide the real drama.
I also recommend Max Brooks' book "World War Z" to further your interest in zombiology.

I always wait for the marathon(the week-by-week "suspense" is a bore)...
The show is beautifully done, in my opinion! All it needs is a mini-series frame of mind, gone rampant into many mini-series. Basically, Stephen King on coke, and the acting is so surreal. The casting examiners and choosers are top-notch analysts.
