why is the word ‘soles’ soooo evocative?
i mean like even ppl not into tickling can find it cringey to say that word (i experimented once with ppl having to read a bit of text with that word in it) and also with my tickle talk often i saw the person blushing when talking about specifically’soles’ as opposed to bottoms or underneaths of ur feet,

jw everyones thoughts and no i dont mean in a foot fetish way at all

I think it sounds a bit sexier then sayong bottoms of your feet. Maybe its just easier to say. "I am gonna tickle your soles next" just sounds nicer overall. It's not that big a deal to me. I rather have a ler using the bottoms of the feet way of talking then no ler at all. Lol

I always liked the word "sole" because of a pun that I heard in the 1960's.
First, it should be noted that in films and TV shows of the 1950's, any time that a judge was sentencing a convicted murderer to death, the judge would end the sentence with "... and may God have mercy on your soul."
In the 1960's, I saw a news clip of a female British rock star walking barefoot on a hot summer day in a paved parking lot. From the gingerly way that she was walking, it was clear that the pavement was uncomfortably hot for her. The news commentator said, "... and may God have mercy on her soles."

There's a specificity and a clinical precision to "soles" that makes it less of a fit with colloquial conversation, the same way people are more likely to say "tooth" than "molar." In my experience people are more likely to say "I'm going to tickle your feet" or "You have such ticklish feet" than "Your soles are so ticklish." My impression is that when regular people talk about "tickling feet," what they're referring to is primarily the tickling of the soles, but I don't know if I'm right about that.

The word 'soles' is so evocative because of the 'intimacy' of it compared to the generic bottoms of your feet......it puts one 'right there' at the most intimate, vulnerable and ticklish area....

I might write about the" bottoms of a Lee's feet" as a general location,,,Because in writing, you have to use different words to avoid boring repetition...
so first may come the 'bottoms' comment ..but when the fingertip or scribbling fingers are in use..I will place them on the fortunate Lee's ... soles....or arches...or 'balls of the feet'.... because I want the reader (Ler, Lee, etc) to be right there, living the experience.

Yes , 'soles' is an evocative word...but same for arches , tummy or hip 'hollows' , the 'crease' of the groin...or 'crease' between thigh and hips....Everyone (even those inexperienced with tickling) can 'feel' exactly where you are with your fingers when you 'place' them using the correct and evocative language....😈

The use of 'intimate' words for a body area is simply a 'cut above' and evokes a new level of either desire ( To tickle ) or terror ( to BE tickled ) ....
Even if youre not actually referring to tickling --Using an evocative word still creates the 'intimacy' factor...It places you a bit closer to the other person's heart and soul or core of their being....

Funny, I didn't know some peeps don't like "soles." I'm the opposite lol. I like "soles" and don't like "feet" that much. I still say feet though. For example, I would ask, are you ticklish on your feet?

@Wade is right–The specificity of it makes it especially strange in most contexts where "feet", or an informal "bottoms of the feet" would feel more natural.

I have a kink for feet, but to hear soles in an unnatural context feels more weird than sexy. In online discussion, it also has been a good indicator for how into feet someone is. A lot of people I encounter who have a hyper fixation on feet tend to try forming the conversations only around feet and overuse the word soles. I definitely understand @aberdeen's point about word usage in stories. In conversation, however, even if kink related, it just feels like the conversation is not natural and is being used just for the other's fantasy more often than not. It can fit more naturally into kink conversation, but I rarely get that feeling from it.

For non-kink, mainstream stuff, I feel like "soles" is the most unnatural way to say it. I don't even know if I've ever heard it spoken aloud in a non-kink context. Sole of the foot, soles of the feet, bottom(s) of the foot, or rarely even sole if there's context, but maybe never soles. It's such a specific shorthand that sounds like it would be used only by someone who talks about it so often that they have utility for it. So if I heard it in the wild, it would be extremely weird to me. Perhaps the only possible exception would be from a Podiatrist.

I like feet. I like tickling feet but I almost never say soles. I’ll say, oh wow, the bottoms of your feet are ticklish. Not sure why but I prefer saying bottoms of your feet.

It wasn't that long ago when talking with the lees i'm friends with here that instead of having a foot session I started calling it a soles and toes session which i've found i like. Perhaps just because it's new and different for me to say currently but I like the word soles.
