Alex Ovechkin scored goal number 895 on a power play 7:26 into the second period to become the NHLs all-time goal scoring leader, surpassing the Great One, Wayne Gretzky. Eerily enough, Ovi scored the record breaking goal in his 1487th game. Wayne scored his 894th goal in game 1487!
It was always stated that Gretzky's record of 894 goals was unbreakable. Now that it's Ovi's, this record may be Ovi's for a while, Sidney Crosby is second on the active goal scorer's list with 622 goals.
Congrats to Ovi, and at the rate he's scoring, he needs 5 goals in today's and 5 remaining games to reach 900. We'll see...
