In this day and age of bastardized rap and hip/hop.. y'know; the artists grabbing popular guitar riffs or entire rhythms to use as background for their bragging about how many ladies they've boned? -- Yeah. Those.

Well there was an origion for them. Many years ago. And majority of it is from the Classic Rock Genre. So-- what would you consider your Top 10 Classic Rock picks?

Tough to focus on 10, simply because there were so many bands and musicians that fall under the category of classic rock.

Well in no particular order:

AC/DC - Thunderstruck
The Rolling Stones - Gimme Shelter, Satisfaction, You Can't Always Get What You Want
The Who - Who Are You?, Baba O'Riley, Eminence Front
Paul MacCartney - Live and Let Die, Band on the Run
The Beatles - Hey Jude

Those songs will probably change tomorrow but it's a list of those I hold in high regard overall.

The problem with a "classic rock" top ten is that it's just not possible unless you are talking about the 1970's decade of traditional classic rock. The OP actually mentioned the various subgenres of today's "music"...and what we call "classic rock" actually has many more. As a musician for over 30 years and a person steeped in rock history, I'd have to say you'd need to break it down into early classic rock, classic psychadelica, classic progressive rock, classic hard rock, classic metal and traditional classic rock at the very least.

A few years back, I ran a "vote-off" of the top 32 classic rock bands in a bracket format to find the TMF's favorite classic rock band (which turned out to be Led Zeppelin), and have been working on a list to do another vote-off for fun...this time of classic rock song's to find the TMF's favorite by vote. I have so far gone through three versions of a list of 32 and still can't get everything on that NEEDS to be there...so even that may have to be a "March Madness" bracket of 64. There's just so much that falls under the blanket term "classic rock".

The Classic Rock Song Vote-Off 2011 is coming soon! (And I would have posted my personal top ten here, but I think it might tip my hand as to the vote-off list.)
