I know, because I woke up with one on me! That little fucker woke me up. They hurt like a bitch.

I find them on me, daily, as I walk to work past a wooded area. I stay at least 3 feet out onto the road (thankfully, there's about 6 feet of margin on that side) but that isn't always helpful.

At least the ones around here are the little ones. I'd hate to find something attached to me that'd bloated up to the size of a marble, ugh.

Oh god, that would freak me out! As it is, the one I found tweaked me out a little bit anyway since I was just waking up. Weird shit man.

Yes, it's the first syllable of our favorite activity, ironically enough. I have about 2 acres of woods on my property and a lot more behind it, so I have my wife check me out whenever I venture into them. The biggest danger with ticks is getting Lyme Disease. Trust me, you don't want it.

I'll have to remember that excuse... 😀

indeed, it is. thanks to that shit, i'm a statistic. one of the few that actually survived it. if it wasn't for my mom's concern about the bulls eye mark on my chest years ago, i wouldn't be here.

an Eagle Scout's advice: if you can burn 'em, good. if you take them out with tweezers, be gentle and make sure you get the head as well. if you don't want to burn or tweeze them out, a little Vaseline around the body will (normally) make the tick get out on it's own, as that cuts off air to the little bitch.

as far as i know, the main carrier of Lyme Disease are deer ticks (Ixodes scapularis) and are commonly found in wooded areas and don't seem to be restricted to any specific region. they are also commonly known as the black-legged tick.

another issue with ticks is tick paralysis. it is uncommon, but it does happen, and can be fatal. tick paralysis happens during feeding, and dissipates after the tick is removed.

wow...entomology club, here i come!

I thought Lyme Disease was rarely fatal. =/

But yeah, after playing paintball in the woods, I always shower and do a thorough tick search. Parasites creep me the hell out.

My dog's had a few - most recently we caught a little bugger on the top of his eyelid, it was pretty small, and Charlie was soooo good at staying put, but it was pretty hard pulling it out. I have a certain satisfaction in killing the little shites though. Makes up for having to sit on Charlie and hold him still, bless him.

if it is caught soon enough, sure. but once it sets in, there is not much one can do other than meds to keep things going. Lyme Disease affects the mind and the body, deteriorating both efficiently.

Lol, I second that.

But, anyway, yeah they've been around for awhile, atleast down here, haven't had any on me yet though.

Yuck. :disgust:
We don't get too many out here, thank God. We remove from pup with olive oil or anything acetone based, like nail polish remover. You know what I hated about East Coast? Those damn chiggers.
XOXO
