Tickle Fetish got someone fired...

Heard a fairly funny/interesting story today. My girlfriend is a manager for a certain hotel chain (Which will remain nameless) and apparently a receptionist on night duty at another hotel had her boyfriend behind the desk with her, when a guest showed up. He ducked under the desk to get out of sight, and then removed her shoes and socks and began tickling her feet, out of sight of the guest. She couldn't hold her laughter in, the guest complained the following morning to the manager and she has since been sacked (!). It has since been discovered that he has a full blown tickle fetish (And may very well be among us, of course) and I was wondering, do you think this is the first case of a tickle fetish getting someone fired?

It kind of reminded me of that classic General Hospital scene where exactly the same scenario occurs, but with less 'hilarious' consequences...

You know, the boyfriend should not have been there, but that is pretty cold blooded from the customer. The girl laughs and she wants to complain? If the girl did everything else correct, and made sure the lady was not waiting and accodomated the customer's request in a timely, efficient manner, then why complain?

I think she was fired because of having her boyfriend there, not because the boyfriend has a tickling fetish. Besides, she allowed him to be here, she allowed him to remove her shoes/socks, so it is NOT because of a tickling fetish. It played a part, but she allowed it. They both should have used better judgement...

Working at a hotel with your boy friend hiding behind the counter distracting you while you are helping customers = fired. It's harsh and they are assholes for firing them, but if you want to keep a job you don't break the rules and sneak your boyfriend into work to distract you. It would be a hot scene in a movie though 😉

Agreed. It's a place of business, not a party. When someone comes in for a room, maybe late at night, probably exhausted and not in the best of moods, the last thing he wants to deal with is a giggling hotel clerk. She should've known better and so should her boyfriend

I agree with Prime. You make it sound like the person with the tickle fetish got fired for having said fetish, which is not the case.

While I also agree with the fact that it was unprofessional and probably worth being sacked over, I'm not surprised the customer complained. Customers will complain about anything. I worked in an arcade in my youth, and we didn't keep change at the redemption counter. It was a slow night, so I was reading a magazine. Someone came up to me and asked for change. I told them they needed to go up front to the ticket desk. That, apparently, enraged them so greatly that they wrote a three page complaint about it to my supervisor.

Three. Fucking. Pages.

I wish I'd had the notion to ask them for a copy. I'd have loved to see what it said.

Wow Phineas, talk about asshole 😵 Three pages, I can't think of material about it for three pages. That person should become a writer, they have talent.
As far as the clerk goes, it is the kind of thing hotel clerks get fired for, so I see nothing weird about it. Was the customer being an asshole? Sure! But the clerk also did something wrong. What if the customer said something that shouldn't be laughed about, or was feeling self-conscious about something and misinterpreted the laugh? What did the customer even ask for?
From my experience, it's always the clerk, cashier, etc. getting the brunt of asshole customers. My experience selling tickets at a student-club which organizes concerts and sort of works as a night-club is that people can be incredibly bitchy over 5 extra kuna (HRK, Croatian money) to pay (not even a full dollar). They forget to bring the green membership card they must have to enter (law forces club members to have membership cards while on club premises or the club can be fined heavily, and non-members are not allowed on the premises by that same law), and then bitch to me when I tell them they need to have it to enter, and since they don't they must pay a 5 kuna symbolic fee for me to make a new one (it's really symbolic, I think the cards and our time are worth more, but the purpose is to "punish" people that forget them all the time, because people used to make 30 of the god damn things, forget every time and have us make new ones)

I think the customer probably got the impression the girl was laughing at them. Doesn't surprise me a big that there was a complaint. I had one the other day because there are reserved parking spots for pregnant women in front of the PX!

Anyways, this is a typical example of two idiots being at the wrong place at the wrong time.

She shouldnt have had her boyfriend their. if he wants to tickle her so bad, wait until her shift is over and do it at home.

Having her boyfriend with her at her work station during working hours was the real infraction, IMHO.

ok while i agree it was REALLY bad judgement on their part, and agree with her being fired for her boyfriend being there...................... i have to ask myself.... how many people here say "oh i'd love to have my boy/girlfriend come to my work and hide under my desk to see if i can hold in laughter as they tickle me".... a lot. just sayin' 🙂 but like I said- completely unprofessional and probably in the employment rules she's not to have any visitors as it is a place of employment. Her own fault really.

To make it short.
The customer is an idiot, it it was only harmless laughing. But we don't know what happened exactly.
It was silly for the boyfriend to be there at all, for the girl to let him be there and particularly it was silly to hide there and start tickling.
So not tickle fetish got someone fired but stupidity that accumulated in three persons.

Sorry but I disagree with it being harsh, some people are damn lucky to even have a job. If you were a customer no let's use normal terms shall we, GUEST! If you were a guest checking in to a hotel, you had just had a tiring drive or long journey and all you wanted to do was check in for the night, and the receptionist was laughing at you I think i'd be a bit annoyed too. Plus we don't know if the girl was just giggling or just all out laughing to the point of being unable to say anything. To begin with it would probably be quite amusing if you had a sense of humour, but if it continued for too long what person wouldn't be annoyed about that?!

Yes there's having a sense of humour and then there's being too soft on a situation, and unfortunately a lot of people forget that not all people react the same way to a situation.

Also, customer service has become very poor in recent years. I remember back when I was growing up in the '80s, customer service always seemed more polite and respectful. Now it's common for me to enter a shop and for the staff to all be bantering with each other, talking about their boss or giggling about someone's boyfriend or whatever. I think customers complain about every little thing nowadays because customer service has gotten so bad.

Having her boyfriend with her at her work station during working hours was the real infraction, IMHO.

I agree...

He should have been home; maybe, playing Xbox, posting on the TMF, or masturbating in some room of his choosing.

IMO, the customer was an asshole, the girl shouldn't have had her boyfriend there, her boyfriend is an idiot for tickling her in front of the customer, and her boss is a hardass, who might need to lighten up a little.

That being said, i've seen a tale or two on here about tickling fetishes costing people there jobs. Sadly, some people can't keep their hands to themselves, and some times others react in a overly strong manner (IMO) when the subject is brought up.

I can kind of understand why the customer got upset by the girl laughing. The customer may have thought the girl was laughing at her for some reason, not knowing what was going on underneath. Even if the customer did know that the girl was being tickled, I'm sure she didn't want to have to deal with that while she was waiting for service. Tickling + Workplace = Trouble, most of the time.

The customer over-reacted, but the boyfriend shouldn't have been there. If the tickling wasn't as issue, she probably would have got a bollocking for him being there with her. Still, getting the sack is quite harsh - what happened to three strikes and you're out? I speak as somone who's had a few instances of getting the first strike in his time....

Cheers, everybody,

I have tickled a couple of girls I know at work but never when I am serving a customer. The customer got ticked off because the girl was "messing" around. It would of been seen as her talking on the phone, giggling with her boyfriend while she is supposed to be working. Sorry, to say but her boyfriend is to blame for not allowing her to be professional. There may be some people who just would of blown it off but when serving the public its always a risk to not remain serious about your job. I'm sure many here wouldn't like to walk into a restaraunt and watch the cooks sword fighting with the spachulas or maybe some would. Anyway, always a risk and it doesn't make the customer entirely wrong.

The boyfriend shouldn't have been there, and you shouldn't put playtime in while you are working.

the scene as described is great for a fantasy, great for a story or video, great for a role play, but, as most have pointed out, not so bright for a real life work situation with a customer. There is not enough information in the description to know the extent of the distraction and the interaction with the customer, the exact nature of the complaint and the history of this employee and her boss and the rules of the hotel to draw any conclusions that is was a bad decision, mean decision, good decision ar anything else. It is clear it was not a tickle fetish that got someone fired but specific actions of tickling that contributed to someone being fired. Whether the guy tickling had a fetish or not is immaterial. Maybe this girl had a history of poor performance and this was the last straw. Maybe the customer made a mild remark about the incident but the girl's supervisor takes a hard line on any customer complaints and acted accordingly. Maybe the girl was really over the top in her reactions and really made the customer mad. As someone else noted, if you are tired from traveling and just want to get to your room, the last thing you want is some giggly hotel clerk.
In my stupid and impetuous youth I actually removed the shoe and sock and tickled the bare foot of a woman in my office as she was in the middle of a business call. I once tickled the ribs of a woman in the office while we were having a business call with someone on a speaker phone trying to make her giggle and laugh. Were those fun? Yes. But they were also stupid and unprofessional and could have resulted in appropriate work place repercussions up to and including firing. I would never engage in such actions now and if someone I worked with or who worked for me did that I would take the necessary actions to reprimand and discipline. I was just lucky i didn't get fired.
Now, if someone were to make a tickle video of a work related tickling episode, I would gladly watch, pay for, download it and enjoy it.

I've been tickled by co-workers numerous times at the office, most recently in the past couple of weeks, but I'll acknowledge that they're probably lucky they chose a target who's unlikely to complain or bring harassment charges against them.
