No, I don't think I would have got that to fly as my master's thesis but as this next series will show there were way too many examples of women washing their feet or putting on ballet slippers or rubbing their feet, or getting pedicures for it to be a coincidence .... The guy liked feet! My kind of guy!

Oh looks like Toulouse-Lautrec liked feet too - that doesn't really shock me!

Great find, Stroker! - I think you are on to something here! There are so many examples of situations like this that could go "ticklish" at any moment in Impressionism I begin to wonder what was going on back there!

What amazes me is that so many of these are things I haven't seen before now!! And I thought if had tickling in it and it was produced over 100 years ago I have perv'd it somewhere along the way!

Mr Darcy's Secret Tickle Porn??

Sorry I have a Pride and Prejudice fetish too and that's the first thing that popped in my mind when I uncovered these.

The artist is Thomas Rowlandson and the illustrations are from the late 18th/early 19th century.

I don't know this for sure but these first two sure look like upper body tickling to me. I particularly like the first one. The last one, well I will just let that speak for itself. 😛

I am pretty sure that a porn was made based on "The way of a Man with a Maid" and it is called something like "What the Swedish Maid Saw" - never seen it other than in screen shots. 😱

Part of the appeal I think comes from the fact that I grew up in South Africa where any kind of nude imagery was completley banned ,then when I returned to the UK as a young teenager I stayed briefly with my grandparents who had a large stash of art history mags which I was amazed to find were completly uninhibited by the strict censorship that was enforced in SA.

More than just a passing interest for me. I like to say that I had to turn to art history because I am a frustrated artist .... too left brained my instructors used to say. Isn't it interesting how even in places with liberal censorship laws, images that were produced hundreds of years ago no matter how overtly sexual they are can be printed, viewed, discussed in "mixed company" and no one thinks twice about it.

I really hope my senior thesis advisor read my "Edgar Degas Is a Foot Fetishist" post and had an apoplexy - there's a nice 19th century word for the kiddies! I hated that woman! She was beyond conservative! I am not sure she thought that anything produced after 1915 was considered "real art" .... I wonder if future generations of art critics will think of us a quaint and endearing or as radicals. Maybe both.

-That reminds me of a story I read once about a garden full of marble statues in various agonized-yet-aroused positions. They only appeared to be marble though, they were actally petrified humans who could feel everything that touched them. They had been frozen in the middle of whatever torturous erotic tickling act was being performed on them, never able to achieve release, always open to the ministrations of anyone who walked through the garden. Of course this was explained to the main character of the story, who was then encouraged to tease and tickle the statues as much as he wanted (while the author described to the readers exactly what the statue was feeing). . . .
