Tickling in Television

I don't know about you, but to me there's more tickling of guys on television than girls. Whether in cartoons or on sitcoms or whatever, guys are usually the ones being tickled. To me, it's sexist, but maybe that's because I want more tickling of girls on television. I think tickling a guy seems okay to the public, while tickling a girl can seem almost like fondling to certain people. It's like men having relations with girls get more time behind bars than women having relations with boys. Sexism. What are your thoughts?

I think it comes down to basic sexual dynamics. A majority of television writers are heterosexual males, so if a character is going to be tickled for any reason, I think they'll tend to write a male as the 'lee for more comedic effect from their point of view. Tickling a female might be more sexual to them, so they would write her more often in that scenario.

Since tickling itself between adults in television is generally only used as a comedic beat (When's the last time you saw two adults tickle each other in an episode of CSI: NY?), you'd tend to see more males.

That's not to say that there aren't a number of exceptions, such as the pedicure scene from 'Ugly Betty' or the recent 'In Plain Sight' episode, where the tickle scene was almost a little sad (you have to see the full scene to understand why). But we're talking trends, and that seems as good a reason as any.
