Because of me being disabled and having alot of disabled friends who were very ticklish, I tickled them alot.

I think that it acts as a certain type of theropy for them - makes for feel metally and phisically inriched and ready to carry on another day with there disability.

I had a friend who had a size problem, he was so ticklish! Before I finnished at my disabled school, he seemed relitivly happy with life. During the next year, I phoned him up a few times, and during that he said that he really liked me tickling him, - a few weeks later, when attending my best mates funeral (he was terminly ill - Muscular Distorfy), my old School friends said that my small friend had died of a drugs overdose, I reckon that if he was still tickled occasionally often, that it would have given him the mental stiminous to carry on with life.

I have been called a peidofile for looking up teen tickling, - I spose they are right, but you see from above, that I am very pashionate about this subject. Do I have a point?

Tickling as a thearapy, this is very true. It sounds like you were doing him a nice service. I do believe tickling can be a stress relief, just as massage, a bath, dancing, and having a hobby. Human contact is very important as we are all social creatures by nature. I would guess, that even though this is a sensitive issue but a very valid one, that as long as the other party is not adverse to it and enjoys it, it should theoretically do no harm. However, I may be missing a bigger picture and there may be other issues to consider.

All in all, I think you did a good thing.

I remember reading a story in a magazine for a local hospital. A 13 year old girl was in a car accident and as a result, suffered some brain damage including a loss of speech, and some physical abilities to take care of herself. One day, her mother was giving her a bath and began tickling her. The girl remarkably uttered a laugh and a word resembling "stop". The tickling caused a reaction in the brain to express the desperation we all feel when being tickled. Now, the girl goes to speech therapy and is doing much better. I don't know if she still gets tickled, but that one event helped to send her on her way to recovery.

Tickling as therapy? Well, I don't know. I think that if a person truly enjoys being tickled, then yes. But I don't know if that kind of physical contact should be implimented for all. I think that anyone who truly enjoys being tickled SHOULD be tickled.

Well, tickling is basically an overload of the nervous system, so, I guess, when there's problem with the system, a reboot is the way to go! 😉

Seriously, if one is disabled, being tickled :
a) gives him feeling
b) makes his body work his reflexes which he often may not be able to volountarily control
c) makes him laugh = laughter is an old known medicine. I did a project on it once. Never did on tickling though 😀

Tickling as therapy - definitely works for me. I've suffered from serious epression for years, but I know my mood is definitely lifted for days after I've been tickled. It is has something to do with raising the serotonin levels in the rain. Also there si a website somewhere (I forget it's link) that has shown studies done on Schizophrenis in Pennsylvania where they have been tickled has improved their wellbeing. Normally they would have difficulty identifying expreiences within themselves as everything happens out fo their own body, tickling them helps them experience feelings within themselves and so aids reovery and iunderstanding. Also thisis may be of interest, I have a friend who is a sex therapist, Tickling is recommended to certain couples to help them sexually. Apparently it helps you achieve orgasm if you've been scared to or have had problems in the pas etc achieving this. Some people have a fear of letting go and feel orgasm is loss of control, so they can't allow themselves to go there. Being tickled helps ecause if you are truly ticklish, lauging and screaming like mad, you hve of course already loist control and by learning that it's safe to do so through tckling, it can help get over the other barriers too. The only problem with me is that I can allow certain people only t tickle me at times because my problem is more one of image and being told by my parents that expressing emotion, good or bad is wrong and I was often punished for it, so there is always a fear that if I le go and truly scream and laugh something bad will happen. I feel that as long as the person consents to the tickling and is enjoying it and the tickler doesnt ignore their requests to stop and indeed knows when to stop, - go for it. Disabled or not everyone has the right to experience this.

I always give credit where credit is due and on this note, Speedy UK, I must say that this is truly a wonderful topic for discussion. I'm very glad you brought it up. 😀

Great replies too, by the way!

I am a disabled female who is Extremely ticklish. I think that tickling the disabled is a good thing. Back in April, when I first came on this sight, I noticed a surge in energy after being here. A few weeks later, after the death of a dear friend of our family, I experienced a mild three-month depression. During this period, although I wasn't tickled much in r/l, just coming on here and talking about it made me feel better. I came in depressed and left happy. I think that is powerful. So, I think it's a good idea. Speedy, congrats on a good, psychological topic!

Very good input Crydun,

my condolences about your Friend. The TMF makes me feel good as well.😀

Speedy,

Some things so simple can mean so much to people. Sometimes
you never know the good you are doing till much later.
This was a very interesting thread and glad you were able
to post it here. Thanks for sharing.

Crydun,

Glad you feel the energy as the rest of us do, this forum
was needed so long ago, I am grateful for it and to have you
all that post part of this. 🙂

Thanks and peace,
DK

This may be an old thread, and no one may read this, but having had myotonic Muscular Dystrophy fo the last 22 years, abd being wheelchair bound since the 15th one, I see nothing at all wrong with tickling a disabled person if that is what (s)he wants! We dislike being on the outside looking in. I'd have been to many more gatherings if travel wasn't such a problem. I fugure I can get to CT. I hope there will be a gathering on L.I. And maybe, Just maybe, I could make it to Albany for SBG2, but I digress. I LOVE being tickled, and alwas have. It makes me feel like someone cares, and it's nice not being treated with kid gloves once in a while. Tickle me! I'm not glass, and I won't break. (Take that anyway you want!). If you want to know more about my condition, ask me! People seem to think I will be insulted if the ask what I have, and how it affects me. Nothing could be further from the truth. I wish more people would ask, instead of looking at me pityingly, or acting like they are going to catch it. In the end, a little, or a lot of tickling, won't do me any harm. As thrapy, well, I have a thread on that, "Tickling is good for you" In this section. O.K., felt I had to reply. I'll laugh as loud and long as anyone else, given the chance. I'm a darn good ler, too! Thanks for listening!

Here, here!

I have a mate who has MD, he is expected to live until about 25-30. He was so good looking at 13 I would have gone out with him if I could! lol

The point is that it is within that you should care about what the person looks like or what disability he or she has.

Thanks for replying mate.

Speedy, if it's in fun as I know you do it, then it can only be good. Also, from what I know of you, you're either a teenager yourself or have just left teenage years behind. Don't let that taunt worry you. Teen doesn't automatically equal paedophillia. It only means that if it's a teen who's under the age of consent and you do it with sexual intent yourself. If it's harmless tickling done just for fun, then there is no problem. Hell if it was otherwise, I'd have been in prison for years. I tickle my neighbours kids all the time, and they for their part seem to do their best to provoke me into doing it. Tickling a youngster is totally different from tickling a lover or tickling someone at a gathering. The motives and feelings are totally different.

Look after yourself my friend.

being among the ranks of the disabled...i have to agree tickling is great therapy and a good way to include us. my only problem (this is just for me as i cannot speak for others) is that i'm not as sensitive in some spots as others (unfortunately) and i know it can't be corrected...but as has been echoed in this thread tickle me tickle me tickle me 🙂😀 :evilha:
