Disney seems to have forgotten that in the original Peter Pan, Tinkerbell was a jealous psychobitch who tried to KILL Wendy just because she was a pretty girl near Peter.

I don't appreciate this deviation away from her character with all this Tinkerbell merchandise and this new Tinkerbell movie and crap.

And my friends never have any decent arguments about it. They're just like "But she's cute and sassy and she's a fairy--" "PIXIE" "--right a pixie. :'D"
Correct me if I'm wrong, but that is not a good defense against the accusation that she's a bitch.

I dunno, this is kind of just because I need to vent and want someone to actually listen to me. XD But does anyone else not appreciate efforts like this from movie producers--not just Disney, but they do seem to be leading in this topic >__>--to screw the character in order to capitalize on them?
Or does anyone else just dislike Tinkerbell? XD

This can also serve as a warning to never give me anything Tinkerbell-related.

ahh you read the book...Tink was self absorbent..remember her boudoir? it stunk of vanity and snobbery..also she cussed...she would say "You silly ass" and yes indeed she did try to kill Wendy..the Wendy bird..ahh but she was soon gone...remember when Peter went back for Wendy the following year or so..she asked how is Tink..and Peter said who? he didn't even remember his old nemesis, Captain Hook..

I say that Tink deserves... the treatment... in payment for attitude and crimes.
:feather:

Lewis Carroll, writer of Alice in Wonderland wrote the story about a 12 year old girl he loved and had a sexual fascination. some thing get lost in translation for obvious reasons.

Agree with Norm.

I understand how you feel about movie makers totally destroying the literary arts of some great writers. V for Vendetta and The Da Vinci Code come to mind.

Buuuuuuuuuuuut, there is a reason why some aspects of Tinkers personality were removed from the Disney version. 😛

I have a feeling it's the same reason why they never showed Bambi's mummy being shot and killed... but that's just a hunch. 😉

My two pence, never compare the literacy arts with hollywood blockbusters. They're rarely the same, rarely.

I regret nothing!!!

Well in the original book, Tinkerbell isn't crazy as such, it's that going by the Never-Land rules, Fairies are so small and so can only fit in one emotion at a time. She easily gets overwhelmed from said emotions which is the reason why she does what she does. Also, she does go and save Peter's life later on by drinking poison meant for him so she ain't all bad.

...

Sorry, Peter Pan is one of my all time childhood favourites which is why I know about it and am rather nerdy on the subject. And damn you Disney, damn you for raping it and my childhood. May maggots be found in your sandwiches for this.

I loved Tink because she was an uberbitch. When I was a kid I wanted to capture and tickle torture her for all her badness. Just think, all it would take is a little string and a teeny, tiny feather.

Norm: yeah, I'm not saying they were necessarily *wrong* to change that... It's just that now there's all these girls all over the place thinking she's this adorable little sassy pixie when she's not. The actual Tinkerbell is psychobitch. And now Disney's just taken her over as a totally separate character.

Bob: I know. This just really bugs me. XD

Dev: That's true. With the emotional range of a teaspoon I suppose psychobitch should just be expected and not held so much against her. Which I don't. I just dislike her. And the Disney capitalization on a redone version with her name stamped on it.

personally i love Tinkerbelle...and i have read Peter Pan a million times..

Actually, my daughter loves the Disney Fairy series of books. She has them all and has read them several million times (NOT an exaggeration, she's been a speed reader since she was 6). She has the Pixie Hollow website as her home page, and can't wait for the DVD to come out.

I figure it gives her some positive 'girl stories' to read. Not all kids get into the Transformers/TMNT/Pukeymon/etc. junk. It's a better option than some of the other crap out there that masquerades as pre-adolescent literature. She's even created her own fairy story series "The Saraphena". I want to get her to write them all out and see if they are publishable.

At least they aren't marketing her as something horrid from the UnSeelie Court or such...

Tinkerbell? You mean the Itsy-bitchy fairy of ultimate BDSM-ness? Who wouldn't love her?

I'm only now piping in because I only afew days ago discovered why the thread was begun! You see, I was in the employee break-room, sipping coffee and whiling away my half-hour lunch. Dancing with the Stars was on, and during the break there was an ad for the Tinkerbell movie!

I noticed perhaps a year ago that women were suddenly wearing all sorts of tee's and purses, jackets and backpacks with Tinkerbell's likeness.
My question is: Is the mini-fashion-craze something that Disney decided to capitalize on? Or, did they orchestrate the Tink-meme in anticipation of the eventual movie?

the hollywood brother agress with you. if they want to change the character why not make her a ticklish little pixie that love guys or girls. then it would be a character that people could get behind

Tink has always been a popular character from Disney, esp. those of us old enough to remember watching "The Wonderful World of Disney" Sunday Nights on NBC way back when. They have always been merchandising her, since many can identify with her spunky character in Peter Pan. Even ten years ago or more, the Disney Store and their catalog had Tink item, from accessories to clothes to sleepwear.

In the past 3 years, they have been doing a series of book on the Fairies of Pixie Hollow, most likely to take on the young girl literature market. They have sold well enough to have them create the Pixie Hollow web site and the movie. I'm certain the movie idea came way after the books, for the movie was originally due out last year at this time, but had to be reworked when the market testing put off many watchers. The original version had all fairies (but Tink) that had not appeared in any of the books and the audience was very ticked that the characters they had been looking forward to see were not around. So they held back, redid the movie a bit and put out books with some of the new characters in them.

If the movie had been the plan from the get-go, Disney is too smart to have made such a blunder. We have the DVD, and it's a cute, fun, family oriented movie. If you have early teen or pre-teen girls in the house, they'll love it!

True. But it is good to see that Disney hasn't forgotten who they are; A group of greedy, money grubbing *****s.

^True story bro.

But I dunno, she's kinda charming. And no I haven't read the books, nor do I care to. If I was her size and a cartoon, I'd Tinkerbell.

Ah! Thank you. See, I didn't even know about the "Pixie Hollow" books.
