Round Ten pits two of the few metal bands who've earned a spot in this competition with their diversity, innovation and longevity.

Metallica vs. Iron Maiden

Headbangers Unite!

Vote for your fave.

Maiden, by a smurfs butthair.
Papa Het was once the greatest frontman in music (not just metal), and I love the band. But if you see it as a whole, Maiden clinches it.
If not for anything else that their latest albums have stunk slightly less than 'tallicas.

Had to go with Metallica. "Ride the Lightning" changed my view of what metal can do as a genre forever. I was one of the few who even had "Kill 'em All" when it came out, and with the release of RTL, I finally had some goat pie to make my friends eat.

Metallica brought vocal melody to what was then lumped in under "thrash", which was a welcome relief from the death-growl approach at the time....all guitars, no vocal talent. A lot of metal is "angry", but Metallica made sense of it. Gave it reasons we could all relate to.

I dig on the Maiden big time, "Piece of Mind" being one of my Top 5 metal albums. I just had to go with Metallica for what they meant to me over the years, and still do.

How long till crystal see's this thread

Iron maiden
Steve harris will gallop his bass over everyone

Also, if it was one main metallica band it would be harder, but they been thru diff bassists and changing of sounds

Maiden has kept the same sound(except the pre dicksinson album)

WHAT?!

No way man.

Yeah. They suck now. Shit's been rocky. It's been acknowledged. Ain't nothin' gonna steal that away from the SHEER VELOCITY of music that they pumped out for.....20 years?

They EARNED their sucky period. But like all greats they will come back, just as fuckin' strong.

Metallica hands fucking down.

Period.

End of topic.

I'm gonna have to go with Maiden on this one simply because i'm a fan of the live shows and nothing says loving like a flaming eddy coming down onto the stage!

Hell No, Bro.

Helllllllllllllllllllllllllll No...you have officially earned a full fledged asskicking.

Changin' up sound worked for them. In fuckin' spades.

Maiden has been around longer than Metallica and did not change their sound and except for maybe 2 albums, kept the same vocalist. They survived time

There's gotta be somethin' in the water here.

SCHOOLIN:

Metallica has become one of the most influential heavy metal bands, and is credited as one of the "big four" of thrash metal, along with Slayer, Anthrax, and Megadeth.

The band has sold more than 90 million records worldwide, including 57 million in the United States, which makes Metallica the most commercially successful thrash metal band.

The writers of The Rolling Stone Encyclopedia of Rock & Roll felt Metallica gave heavy metal "a much-needed charge".

Stephen Thomas Erlewine and Greg Prato of All Music Guide said Metallica, "expanded the limits of thrash, using speed and volume not for their own sake, but to enhance their intricately structured compositions", calling the band "easily the best, most influential heavy metal band of the '80s, responsible for bringing the music back to Earth."

Almost voted for Maiden just because I wanted to earn a full fledged asskicking....

Metallica...:firedevil

I have to say something on the "new Metallica" topic. Yeah, it's been a long debated thing....but I actually DID pick Metallica based on thier entire body of work.Yeah, things took a really different spin after The Black Album, but I tried to give credit to what the band themselves wanted to do. Being a Rush fan, I think that's what opened my mind to that train of thought. I mean, Rush lost some of thier fan base after following up Moving Pictures with Signals...but they came back in droves once the fire cooled down. Fan loyalty is, like Crystal mentioned, something you have to earn with your entire body of work.

In the end, "eras" of both bands not withstanding, I had to go with what the best of one meant to me over the best of the other.

Metallica, bitches....:firedevil:

Per wiki
Groups such as Motörhead, Iron Maiden, Venom, and Saxon, as well as many lesser-known ones, became part of the canon that influenced American bands that formed in the early eighties, such as Slayer, Megadeth and, in particular, Metallica, along with many others. Indeed, early Metallica is very similar in sound to a number of NWOBHM bands (in particular, Diamond Head, Motörhead and Blitzkrieg, the songs of each of which have been covered by Metallica.)

In 1990 Lars Ulrich of Metallica compiled a double CD compilation album, entitled New Wave Of British Heavy Metal '79 Revisited, featuring bands as obscure as Hollow Ground right through to the 'Supergroups' of the era.

Damn then...it must be an even BIGGER honor that Metallica got mentioned as one of the most influencial 80's bands an actually "BRINGING MUSIC BACK"

Now .. I'm not a fan of either band, BUT... Metallica DO make the best music
out of the two. Some of the guitar riffs even manage to catch my attention ;D

So .. Metallica *sobs*

Fuckin' A.

I wondered how long it would be before we were asked to choose between two metal giants of the past 20 years or so 😉

Gawd blimey, having seen both bands live I love them both.

To me a good decider is what band I listen to more on a frequent basis and which band really kicked my arse into orbit when I saw them live and that band for me has to be....

METALLICA

But it was a close call as I love em both. I can see why people have voted for Maiden as they are steadfast and I think can be a bit traditionally 'safe' and you know what you get, to me this is ok as like I've said they are a band I rate.

Don't sob. I will give you good sex for that.

Whether you like it or not.
GRAWR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I went with Metallica. Maiden's cool and all, but their lyrics are just so cartoonish (says the guy who listens to psychobilly).

If Maiden doesn't easily win this one, this thing is rigged.

(sorry Crystal) There really is no contest...none at all.

...not even a little bit.

...Nope. ....still none...

UP THE IRONS!!!!

Ok this one was HARD. Both were major parts of my life in their early years.

But ultimately I picked Maiden. Simply because I got more out of their music.
Maiden made me think and look at things with new eyes. Metallica did that with a few songs, but not at the level Maiden did.

you forced my hand

This is Metal
