The final round of the opening bracket....and the last two bands that don't have dick to do with one another, they just took the last two spaces. The different opinions on these two very different bands should be interesting.

The Cars vs. Kansas

Vote now!

Kansas.

The hell is wrong with you?

The Cars?

You need to be slapped.

The Dave is rollin' with Kansas on this one. Not to take anything away from The Cars, who piled hit after hit off thier debut album alone....but Kansas is just the shit, So Sayeth I. Grandiose, deep, that "Heartland Rock" sound combined with prog as only Kansas could do.

Point of Know Return. 'Nuff Said.

Kansas. Just for Carry On Wayward Son alone. Every Cars song combined cannot compare to the greatest of that song.

The Cars

Oh well uh you might think I'm delirious,
The way I run you down.
But somewhere, sometimes
When youre curious,
I'll be back around.

My vote goes to:

I also vote for Kansas. A wide array of excellent musicians. Guitarist Kerry Livgren realeased a solo album in 1983 called Seeds of Change, which is really good and really difficult to find on CD.

Wow, Frankie. That song really seperates the men from the boys. An amazing piece of work, particularly that instrumental break.

I also love Whiskey Seed and To Live For The King.

Sometimes I just can't resist playing requests (this is the only one I could find, Drew):

Frankie, you are the man. I've not heard that song in at least 20 years. Many thanks for this and all of the excellent tunes you post! :bowing:

I guess I'm just a disc jockey at heart, Drew. I'll post more songs on other threads, you can be sure of that (especially on those 'death' threads I'm always posting about recently departed entertainers).

Tough one.

Both great bands ... but I can't seem to get songs like Let's Go & Bye Bye Love outta my head when confronting this thread , so .......

The Cars it is.

Didn't realize the classic rock polls had returned, so I gather I missed a lot. Those first two Cars albums, and even most of the third, still sound really fresh today. Candy-O is just a great album and was never really given its due (the critics generally considered it a pale imitation of the first- stupid gits). I love Ben Orr's vocals- he and Ocasek sounded similar enough that I don't think I realized that Ocasek also sang lead when I was younger (they split the vocal duties). I like Point of Know Return from Kansas, but I think The Cars were the better band with the better material and the greater influence. And they have Elliot Easton- he just tears it up!

Damned difficult round, considering that one of the alternatives is among the very best bands ever, and the other is... The Cars.

Kansas it is!

It was inevitable--you've reached two groups that I never heard of. 😛

Milagros! You've never heard this song:

Kansas - "Dust In The Wind"

or this:

The Cars - "Drive"

Those two songs are among the best by both of those bands. I'm sure you've heard each of those songs at least once in your life.
