To any British members: What's July 4th like in Britain?

Somewhat tongue in cheek, there are some who see it as Briton gaining independence from fellow Briton. (which may have more than a smattering of truth in it.)

And most true Americans (those who had always been there) probably didn't even know that it was happening anyway.

I wish we had a similar day to be honest, but the politically correct idiots won't want it, for fear of offending the various minorities.

Well, it might be tricky to pick a date in your case. Maybe the signing of the Magna Carta? But heck, John and the Barons were all Normans. Maybe the Battle of Agincourt, but that was mostly about you folks conquering France. Possibly the death of Oliver Cromwell? But a lot of Protestants would protest celebrating that.

I dunno, maybe the feast day of Saint George?

Well, I'm happy with our patron saint's day. We can choose from an absolute multitude of historic events, but choosing the best one would be difficult because of the number, and the significance of each. Plus, the PC brigade would do their best to stamp down on anything remotely 'English'. Far too upsetting for everyone else for someone to be English.

I personally remember and acknowledge it

Its events that shouldnt be forgotten

Also for questions\comparisons, the question is relevant because the issue of july 4th and its implications directly involved the British empire and the colonies\future USA

Boxing day\5th of november are primarily Brit(and the former nations\those still swearing allegiance to the UK) acknowledgments and holidays so it would give no reason for the USA to recognize it

I mean, There was no plot to blow up the white house but it should be mentioned that some areas of the USA celebrate guy fawkes night in their own way. But for some, it was used to mock the pope

Plus, and granted im groggy from waking up but i believe no other colony opposed the Empire in those days and wasn't reconquered
