so hug a vet...appreciate a vet...they fought for us..they fought for you..my dad was a vet...i have his discharge papers, his military pictures, his POW card, ...i am proud to be a daughter of a vet...support the vets..they died for us...

Thanks for the post, Isabeau. 😀
Serving the United States for four years during World War II was one of the things of which my father was most proud.

I would like to salute my dad,a veteran of WWII who passed away in 1982,and all the men and women who have served our country with honor.

My grandfather was a Korean War vet. I have two cousins who are veterans, one in the National Guard having served in Kosovo (and is now serving in Iraq) and the other who just got out of the Air Force after serving 6 years and served over in Iraq.

And my brother is also currently serving in Iraq.

To all veterans of TMF, thank you. Our veterans deserve our utmost respect and nothing less.

They could never find enough material to build a statue or monument large enough for this GREAT AMERICAN HERO

Alvin Cullum York (December 13, 1887 – September 2, 1964) was a United States soldier, famous for both his being a conscientious objector and hero in World War I. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for leading an attack on a German machine gun nest, killing 25 German soldiers and capturing 132 others during the U.S.-led Meuse-Argonne Offensive in France.

Common men like this are hard to find anymore, and we need more like him more than ever.

Indeed Sam,and the same could be said about Audie Murphy despite his problems after WWII and his death at a young age.

Audie!

Audie Murphy also played himself in his biopic!

Second most visited grave site next to JFK in Arlington.

"To Hell And Back". Many of his movies are best forgotten but that one is a classic.

Mitchell Paige (August 31, 1918–November 15, 2003) was a recipient of the Medal of Honor from World War II. He received this most prestigious military honor awarded by the United States of America for his actions at the Battle of Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands on October 26, 1942, where, after all of the other Marines in his platoon were killed or wounded, he operated four machine guns, singlehandedly stopping an entire Japanese regiment.

i didn't know Sgt York lived that long..wow...they wanted him to play himself in the movie about him, but he wouldn't..it was a good movie..he said Gary Cooper was a better pick lol...

my dad was in the Korean War...

my grandfather on my mother's side was in WWI, he was older than his wife by quite a few years..he died when i was seven...

david's uncle ran away from home and joined the Navy at the age of sixteen, and died on a battleship in March 1942...

My dad is World War Two Vet. God bless him and all the vets on this day. 😀 😀
