So, here’s the deal. Patreon’s been rolling out changes to how we can customize our pages, and one of the updates lets you choose whether the header shows just the cover image or just the avatar. I was actually pretty excited about that, because having both at the same time — and since both of mine are animated — the end result looked a bit like that awful website Homer Simpson built in that one episode, full of random animations…
Anyway, that’s how I managed to mess things up yesterday:
Problem #1: If you switch to this new layout, there’s no going back. Honestly, I don’t mind too much, because the preview looked like an improvement anyway.
Problem #2: Surprise! The cover image doesn’t load properly… Maybe because mine was a GIF, and now they’re asking for new dimensions. Since it’s an animation, it doesn’t resize well. Okay, let’s try uploading a random image with the right dimensions.
Problem #3: Nope… still not loading. I guess the system is brand new and full of bugs. Fine, I’ll just stick with my old animated cover for now.
Problem #4: And then — surprise again! With the new setup, GIFs aren’t allowed at all. Which means I can’t even keep the cover I had just a few minutes ago… 😡
So yeah, that’s how my page ended up with a much more minimal header than I’d like (hopefully just for a little while).
For now, in record time, I recycled the background from the old one and whipped up this new cover, using the recommended dimensions. I do miss the animation, and honestly, if all this hadn’t happened, I wouldn’t have even thought of replacing the old one… But that cheeky little face, staring straight at the camera, daring us to pick up one of those… ahem, nearby toys and go hard on those stretched and restrained lovely soles… 🤤 Hmmm, maybe it was worth it after all.
I don't know how long it will take to fix the errors and get the page to display the cover image, or even if you're actually able to see it and I can't, so for now, at least I'm sharing it with you here.
