It is truly sad how everyone here has one way or another seen the rise and fall of arguably the most dominating force in boxing history, that is Mike tyson

Tyson lost in 6 rounds today, giving up after the 6th round, scorecards had them tied 56-56 but tyson admitted he couldnt do it anymore and this would be the end

Yes he has said the wrong things but his life is a sad one, he's been manipulated by everyone because it was easy and they all took his money.

Yes there are boxing greats and im not just some kid who knows tyson, he def was the most dominating boxer of the 80-90's and is up there with the ranks of marciano, lamotta, louis, dempsey and more. Sad he went out like this

Any possibility that he took a dive in lieu of this being his last planned match, in your opinion? Its not like him to just give up when he's tied.

Either way its no good whether he gave up because he was payed to or he just didn't have it in him any longer. And its extra sad if it's both.

As the 5-6th round came, he started to fight dirty and cheap shotted\headbutted and did everythin to get dq'd or hurt mcbride so he couldnt continue, includin tryin to break his arm.

This couldnt be a dive, Mcbride was a irish journeyman who never beaten a heavyweight before

But are all these signs that he couldn't beat this man or just further motive toward this being a dive. If Tyson simply could not beat him and wanted to get DQed for his own welfare thats one thing. But whose to say it wasn't a dive, and after seeing that the match was lasting longer than he thought it would and there was a chance he might actually win (in his mind and his coach's), decided to get himself DQed for that reason instead and to ensure the proposed dive.

It seems too perfect, although I'm probably overanalyzing this.

Boxing has a way of being insidiously political when it wants to be. Its not always a sport. Like baseball. Its alot about what the fat cats upstairs are doing and how their greed reflects as desperation on the part of the talent/roster.

And of course theres also the manager/agent issues. Mike Tyson has been mismanaged and abused through the years in this way, just like certain professional baseball teams.

I agree that it is sad that he was taken advantage of by other people Especially his ex-wife/ex-mother in law However, the rest is his fault in my opinion I am not a fan of boxing Howevere you can't help but hearing about him in the news

A few years back I remember hearing of Tyson in the news He had crashed on a motorcycle Guess what? He did not have a permit or liscence (sp) to operate a motorcycle But that's typical of the rich and famous I guess they feel they can do whatever they want

Of course there was the time that he bit off part of Evander Hollifield's ear in a boxing match I remember watching an interview of Tyson after that match He was actually (I thought) trying to legitamize what he had done I'm sorry I just can't work up any real sympathy for that man

He chose to do a lot of that stuff that got him into trouble

He's a loose cannon and rogue in the business. His personal mental stability is also questionable. Thats good and bad at the same time. A part of his popularity is due to that. I'm not backing Mike Tyson nor am I condeming him.

Having not seen the fight for myself, I have questions. I don't follow boxing really, but this seemed interesting enough, being just who he is.

EDIT:

And its spelled license, General (since you asked with the "sp")

the hollywood brother thinks he needs to get into wrestling again. tyson did work for vince mcmahon a couple of times and it always worked out good.

Well boxing is about as authentic as professional pro-wrestling thats for sure. I remember seeing Bruce Seldon take a dive for Mike Tyson. Difference is at least pro-wrestling admits its staged while boxing has the premise that its real. Maybe its time for Mike Tyson to be a Doink the Clown or an Undertaker or whoever those wrestler guys are called.

Mike Tyson is a punk and always has been. The minute he started fighting REAL contenders, he showed what he was really made of. What a baby and an embarrasment to boxing.

Mike Tyson should have packed it in a long time ago because he just dosen't have the skills anymore he needs to have to be a boxer, in fact I don't think he really ever did. While I feel sorry for him nobody was holding a gun to his head when he made many of the decisions that got him to the point he is at now. If he was an intelligent man he would have realized that people were taking advantage of him all along and would never have let them do it. He would be set for the rest of his life if he had been smart enough to know how to spend and invest the money he made in the ring or had at least found someone who would have done it for him without taking advantage of him.

Tyson has faced real contenders that is before his jail time, Its sad we discredit him for what he did recently rather than his amazing career before Buster douglas\his arrest. He was the most feared man on the planet then after the rape conviction his life went down and naturally the maggot media took this and ate him away, as did his friends. Tyson isnt the punk, society and the media are the one's who punked him

John, he isnt intelligent, this is a given. But how is that his fault, he grew up in the poor region of the catskill mountains and was poor all his life till Cus D'Amato took him under his ring and taught him boxing, and he also took him into his house and made him family, one Cus died, everyone began to vulture him. For a man who's main concerns was his mother and pidgeon coops, i dont think he really thinks about the future\investment banking

And wrestling is real in ther aspect of the moves hurt like hell but the outcome is pre-determined, but then again, wrestling died with ECW's death years ago

I agree, Goodie. Every since D'Amato's death, Tyson has not been the same, in or out of the ring. He seemed to be able to keep Iron Mike in line and uder control. When he died, the reigns fell off. he went out of control and made some dumb choices. Too bad, a great starting career that now will go down as a sideshow.

Cus kept him grounded, but once he died, everyone vultured Mike and mike began to believe he was invincible

yeah thats it, tyson isnt mentally or physically prepared to go the distance. He needs to settle his law suit with don king and retire.

That is true too, the biggest worry for tyson early on was stamina, and the biggest test was an early fight where he took some punches square and i believe ended it knockin the guy out in 6, i believe hes 40 now so age is a big thing now

Nobody should be boxing at that age, evander holyfield looks disgusting his last fight when he got out classed and ripped a new one in the ring

Two equally insightful comments practically back-to-back.

Goodieluver, do you have ANY idea how demeaning it is to suggest that poor people have a built-in excuse to be unintelligent? There are plenty of poor people who are very intelligent because they took advantage of the resources available to them, limited though they might have been. Mike Tyson isn't unintelligent because he was poor. He's unintelligent because he has never used his brain. To wit: $300 million dollars didn't make him one bit smarter. Of course, he blew the $300 million too --

I never stated the correlation between income and intelligence

I was stating these were both factors, now some theorists say environment plays a big role but i wont get into that topic

How is a poor thug kid from the streets of new york and with a single mother expected to use his brain and be encouraged to. This is how he got into boxing, he was brought into a youth program for inner city youth and he learned to box, turning his skills into a positive way(i call boxing positive because when done right, it is an artform)

Maybe then the professionals should more carefully evaluate who they let into the circuit for competition. Do you have any idea how easy it is to breed another Mike Tyson? Its not hard.

I suppose the question is, has boxing lost it's legitimacy as a sport?

Well, I really don't watch boxing matches, but I did know Mike's career a bit. He really knew how to box for some time, but that was a long time ago. Then, he became more of a showman than fighter.

But, boxing as such isn't my sport, as I said. The moment any boxer would step into Pride ring with Vale Tudo rules they'd be destroyed by guys like Minotaur(Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira), Vanderlei Silva, CroCop(our Mirko Filipovic),Fedor Emelianenko , or some great fighter like them. Now, these are real fighters. If you wanna see real combat watch PRIDE tournaments(i've included a few photos from pride website, from their tournaments). Go to www.pridefc.com if you wanna know more.

Then again, what do you expect from a putz that converts to islam and gets a Darth Maul wanabe tatoo on his face.

Funny, didnt know tribal face tats became big AFTER darth maul

People have gotten those type of tats for centuries

Duke, I love pride\K1, I remember the huge upset vanderlai silva had over sakuraba when they changed rules and allowed knee strikes to the head on the ground.

And vlad, if it was so easy to breed another tyson, don king woulda, because it would make money. In a devestatingly weak heavyweight division, a marqee heavyweight is needed, and an american at that since the top name in boxing is ukranian. But klitchko is a supurb boxer, its funny how they said his brother was supposed to be better but his bro has a glass jaw

Mike Tyson said he didnt have the heart after Buster Douglas KOed him that fateful night in Tokyo anymore. So that was Tysons reaction to losing his first fight? To the first guy who looked him back in the eye with no fear? Remember the bogus Douglas 10 count or whatever that was that HBO took apart piece by piece and showed that Douglas was merely down for 8 not 10 seconds? Thats Tyson! A crybaby! He wanted that guy to knock him down when he pushed him saturday so he could stay down. Muhammad Ali responded to his first loss with renewed determination to win back the title which he did. Tyson slept walked through nobodies, made excuses and bit people. Anyone who thinks Tyson is in the same league as Ali,Holmes, Frazier, Dempsey,Marciano, etc. is sorely mistaken.

Just like the poor kids with single mothers who DO use their brains? You are essentially giving Mike Tyson permission to be a thug because he turned out to be a professional boxer. You have it entirely backwards. Even if it meant there would never be another professional boxer (or rapper, or whatever) on Earth, we should never give people permission to be thugs. Most people who begin life as thugs are never anything else. Tyson is clear and convincing evidence of that. He's a thug to this day, and that's a shame.
