Of course the UFC will reap the whirlwind of a huge PPV audience. But the aftermath of UFC 229 will leave a bad taste in their mouths.
After the fight is when it got freaky, stupid, unbelievable (insert your favorite adjective here).
Kahbib climbs OUT of the octagon, into the crowd to confront McGregor's entourage. While that is happening, some of Kahbib's team goes INTO the octagon and starts wailing on McGregor. Some commentators
Dana White in the post-fight interview said both fighter's paydays had been suspended (McGregor was eventually given his payday). Plus he said that Kahbib and members of his training staff might have their visas revoked making it difficult to get back into the states. He said the final word on the aftermath would come from the Nevada State Commission.
Here is where it gets weird. In Kahbib's post-fight interview, he said he went after McGregor's entourage because of what was said in the pre-fight hype. He had just finished a grueling fight and had been antagonized after the fight. In his state if mind, he said he felt he needed to do something because he felt his family, religion and heritage had been disgraced in the pre-fight interviews and then again immediately after the fight.
I know that trash talk is common in the pre-fight interviews, it is what whips the crowds into a frenzy preparing for the fight, and Conor McGregor is one of the best at this. But, did it go too far and is there something that the UFC can and will do in the aftermath.
Some commentators describe the scene equivalent to the Malice in the Palace when Ron Artest and other members of the Pacers and Pistons went into the stands to confront unruly fans.
What are your thoughts on what the UFC should do, or can they do anything at all?
