UK student auctions her virginity on the internet.

And just think, there are also children whose parents DO help them out with just about everything, and then they have resentment issues about everything in life being "handed" to them. I'm not gonna use the "It builds character" cliche, but life can feel pretty good when you think to yourself that whatever struggles you've gone through, you've done it all without the help of others. There's satisfaction to be gained from independence. Granted, it really SUCKS when your in a huge ass debt, but personally, I'd prefer self-reliance over handouts any day, and I'd respect myself more. That's just me, though.

Thank God for that! Someone from the other side of the debate has finally put it intelligently and constructively.

I agree with you to a large extent Flatfoot. The reason I feel the way I do in this case is because the girl has virtually not got a pot to piss in, works as a waitress when she'd be spending time better studying her class notes, and her parents are dripping in bloody money.

I think someone who has a resentment problem because they had financial assistance, yet earned their degree themselves, is a truly fucked up person. That sort of person is gonna feel resentful about SOMETHING, no matter what their parents are like. They could just repay their debt to life by helping their own child, or something similar. Of course, some people will feel shitty no matter what happens.

Good post Flatty, I enjoyed reading it. 🙂

this is soo sad but unfortunately it does not surprise me. Just the other day on Oprah there was a mother and daughter who hadn't spoken for 2 years over a wedding dress. Mom says she's tired of paying for daughter's things and bailing her out and getting no appreciation in return. Daughter says I give her money all the time. I want my dress back. Very sad. For some reason, parents of today's society think that financial support should stop at 18 when, in reality, it's becoming harder and harder for an adult child to live on their own. Why? A few reasons. 1)We live in a society where permanent job opportunities are almost a thing of the past unlike back when my daddy worked, when there were factories everywhere and you started there and stayed there until retirement. 2) inflation is growing by the minute. it's sad but true. My dad can remember when bread was 5 cents a loaf. Now, it's $1.00 or more in many places. 3)without a college education, you will almost certainly make only minimum wage anywhere. $5.50 an hour doesn't go far. Finally, for those that do go to college, it's a long road of debt to pay back. College tuition raises every year in many universities, every other year in others. Every day, I get papers in the mail on my loans. And I haven't even graduated yet!! I agree with BigJim. It's outrageous and shouldn't be happening. The parents, who are more than able in this case, should step up to the plate and help.

Hey Crydun;

I saw the dress situation on the Oprah show as well. There is something else going on with that mother and daughter. Mom says child is spoiled, demanding, and manipulative. Daughter says mom is controlling and unforgiving. Personally, I'd get another dress and tell Mom to sell it on ebay as far as I'm concerned. Mom's too angry to receive any forgiveness from her daughter. I wouldn't let a dress ruin my wedding day. I'd rather get married in jeans and a t-shirt.

I'm having a similar problem with my daughter and my ex. He's turning her into a spoiled rotten princess who feels entitled to what she wants whenever she wants it. Her grades are mediocre, yet she continues to play basketball when she should be off the team until her grades improve. Because she's a good player, the school, her coach, and her father let her get away with it.

I've decided to close my wallet until further notice. I don't know who will foot the bill for her intermural sports this spring, but it won't be me! I refuse to throw money at mediocrity. Besides, it's better for her to learn now at age 14 that the world wasn't created to service her whims, than when she's 18 and so-called on her own.

this is probably true, kis. I didn't know you had kids! You don't seem old enough! yes, better now than at 18, i agree.
