Rapidshare downloads at such a piffling speed it is just not worth it, and this new one file factory, keeps prompting you to type in two nearly impossible to read words. Then when you finally get that right, it says all the download slots are full.

Why not ditch the HD previews and just host a SD one on the TMF

I completely disagree. I always find it is worth the effort. It just wouldn't be right for UK Tickling to produce lower quality or shorter previews.

Well to give you an example with Rapidshare, I am downloading as I type this and it is doing it at 29.7kb with an estimated time of 24 minutes. That is not worth it for a preview. The bottom line if it is a model like Hayley it is worth the wait because I know I will want to buy the clip. However I don't like all your models (same as I don't like all of the models of other producers), so to wait this long for a one minute preview of something you aren't going to buy, then as I say its not worth it.

Save the HD version for when people are parting with their money.

To be honest, an SD preview of this length would still be around 20-25mb which is 5 times the attachment size that the forum can host. The only way is to do a really rubbish quality preview, which doesn't come close to representing the quality of the clip; or to do a short 10-20 second preview - which you can get from clips4sale anyway! I don't see the point in producing poor quality previews when I put a lot of effort into keeping the quality of the clips as high as possible.

If people do want to see the clip they'll often persist and in this case it has been downloaded quite a number of times from the rapid link. If the other link says download slots are full it probably just means someone else is downloading it at the same time. I have been using mediafire (which is better as a mirror host for my previews), but they kept pulling the file in this case. File hosts are not perfect but they are currently the only realistic solution for mass distribution of video files above 'dialup' quality....and media files are only going to get larger in the years to come!

I don't really understand your point here WTC...really a preview is an advert for the clip, so it's not intended that people would download the preview as an alternative to buying the clip. Naturally many people will watch a preview and not buy and that is totally fine (I'm glad if they enjoy it regardless), but it wouldn't make sense for producers to be posting previews simply to save people the trouble of buying?

If downloading a 1 min preview is too much effort for a clip that you definitely won't buy then surely you'd just download previews for clips you think you might buy. On the other hand, if you like getting long, high quality, free previews of clips, regardless of whether you would ever buy them then 20 mins is not such a long time to wait....or am I missing something? 😕

(I should also point out that I post about a million snapshots of every clip to give people an idea of whether they would want to download!) 😉

I used the word effort incorrectly earlier. The previews can take some time to download but they can do so in the background while you get on with other things. However, I do agree that there is little point waiting 25 minutes for a one minute preview you don't want to see!

I don't follow your logic. If people are on a limited budget then surely they have more reason to go to the "trouble" of downloading a preview? I'm sure everybody has bought a clip on the back of seeing a short preview and then found that it wasn't particularly representative of the clip. With the combination of all the photos and a quality preview, I've never found this to be the case with tb.

Thanks, but I don't think I'm shooting myself in the foot for that reason - putting out a bad preview would be however. If taking a short while to download a 30-40mb preview is too much trouble for someone, then chances are purchasing and downloading a 400-500mb clip is also going to be too much effort!

If I'm being honest, I don't know how much previews actually even contribute towards the sales of specific clips. I typically sell as many copies of a clip before I release the preview as I do afterward so it is really hard to tell. All I can say is that my full clips tend to be on the longer 13-16 minute side of things and if I am going to take the time to make and post a preview clip, I would rather make sure it is good quality and representative of what the full clip is about!
